Sweet! Unfortunately I can't spend any $ on old gear right now. But goon on ya for making it available to us here, instead of just putting it on eBay.

Pretty sure sean Rice taught me to climb. In the early 70s would he have been an older climber who promoted clean climbing in Wa.?

I tried to find a reference for him but only found a mention in a 1972 AAC journal. He definitely came from Washington. If I remember I picked the gear from Spokane, WA.

Just wondering . . . are people buying the old Chouinard nuts to use, or as wall decorations or museum pieces?
I still use my original Chouinard stoppers - sizes 5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2, and 7, especially. I've re-strung them with new perlon and prefer them to the heavier, more cumbersome, and less flexible wired stoppers. They also double as quick-draws or prusicks in an emergency.
I'll try to upload my photos of me leading Willis Tower last week with old stoppers - and I placed one of them too!

Hey Sibylle, Folks are doing all of the above. Many people like the straight sided stoppers cause they come out easier.

NOBODY is getting ahold of my Chouinard stuff. I would sell my gun collection first....well, maybe that is a slight exaggeration. I have some items straight from his station wagon mounted forge in the late 50's.

Hello to Sean Rice wherever he may be. I climbed with him some late 60's/early 70's. He was probably 40 or so then.

FYI- Sean was a member of the Seattle Mountaineers and I ran into him often at Schurman Rock and Leavenworth through the 70's. Last time I saw him he was working in AK for Ward's Cove Packing Co.

Pterodactyls, goldline, ice daggers, 4" bong-bongs,fifi hooks....I'm keeping them all, what would I climb with?

If you know any good stories about him let me know as I am donating some of his gear to the Yosemite Museum. Probably the most interesting part is that he had a complete set of Chouinard symmetric Hexcentrics

That just means your vintage as well. Hopefully the slings have been replaced a few times.

More gear and rags went out the door. Shoes anyone???
