I haven't gotten in much climbing this summer, as it was on the damp side. Ice climbing is still a few months out. But we finally got a few days of blue skies, and I managed to get out in the woods during lunch. I figured I should snap a few pics before the wind strips the trees bear, and the snow begins to fall. We had our first frost last night, so snow could arrive any week now. I did manage to cut split and stack about 1 1/2 cords of firewood this weekend, I'm sore.

There were still a few coho salmon making their spawning run up the creek, but I couldn't get in a good position to take a picture of them.

Something about the crisp fall air, punctuated by the aroma of the highbush cranberries and the glorious colors that gets your attention.

Yes... Thanks for the pictures.

I spent the weekend helping a lady friend and her dad split firewood. Lots of sore muscles. haha Though we accomplished a lot. 2 cords quartered and one and a half cords split to stove size.

Great photos Paul! I miss the beauty of Alaska, haven't been there in a few years. Have a good winter, I'm such a wuss I'm bailing on comparatively mild Colorado winters. From now on, as soon as the days shorten and the leaves start falling, it's off to the new digs in Patagonia. It's not the South Pacific but I'll have 17 hour days.

I came across a couple of spruce hens yesterday, so figured I'd head out again today with hopes of taking a pic of one. No luck on that end, but I did come along this lass.

I've heard moose referred to as the worlds ugliest horses, who knows? As I'd come across a cow that didn't care for my presence at this spot a few years back, I elected to take the long way around her. Then I came to a small pond that has retreated a bit after the beaver damn partially failed near a stream that feeds the pond.

I spotted this guy as I was heading back to the truck, and drove right by him on the way back to work.

I think he was trying to get some.
