Thank you to those of you who scoured the most beautiful landscape in the world to make it even more beautiful

Thank you to those of you who supported this event with your time, dedication, love, laughter, dancing, sushi, brute strength, donations, and so much more

The biggest thank you goes to Ken Yager for bringing thousands of people together for such an incredible cause

No thanks to whoever stole the Yosemite Climbing Association banners and cases of Redwood Creek wine, picked up raffle tickets and not much else, disrespected park staff, and caused Ken unnecessary headaches

Everyone who participates knows that this is the most incredible event for the international climbing community and anyone else who has fallen in love with Yosemite. As we head home, hearts full with a great sense of accomplishment, we know that we have honored this landscape and the thousands of generations who have come before us to caretake this granite nest.

Yep, Ken is the man.

My first work day at the lift I worked with a couple from Mariposa who were non climbers. They saw a report on the cleanup and decided to help out, so we are reaching non climbers and this thing is growing, which is great for climber relations because the park really values this.

My thanks goes out too, wish I coulda been there...curious how much trash got picked up, last year it was some ungodly amount measured in tons. This year all I have read about are parties slideshows, and bbqs...
Is there a tally or pic of the trash pile?

ps I allways do my best to pick up what I can in yos.

Many others besides myself observed the following.

The regular macro trash such as super market bags, coke cans, and plastic bottles have definitely become much less frequent. Cigarette butts, formerly thought to be milli trash, have moved up to macro trash. We still have a problem with packaging fragments that form micro trash and should be dealt with by better packaging.

During Facelift4 we spent a full half day on the Pullout from Hell just above the long tunnel on 120. Here, and elsewhere, Facelift has worked off many years of debris and the new stream consists of butts and flowers. Ed covered it this year before I saw it so I don't have all the data. But it looks very good!

This year did present a new and serious safety problem. A number of workers fell into streams and got wet. We observed that this generally happens when temperatures are high. I would suggest we correct this by collecting trash when it is cool and going to do climbs during the heat of the day.

The "Pullout From Hell" was attacked by our team and a couple of young ladies who did a good job. What I noticed was less of the big stuff... especially away from the turnouts. Last year you'd spot some can or bottle down off the road and spend a lot of time picking up more of the same. That seemed not to be the case this year, at least not as much.

Still a lot of "rest stop" activity behind the trees and bushes.

All things considered, I believe the FaceLift is making progress on clearing the crap!

When Anders and I were driving up to Tuolumne, who would we spot on an early Sunday morning but jstan picking up more trash on 120.. he is an animal! a machine!! he keeps on cranking...

Have to say as I spew my spray for the first time in 9 Days, Nita is the absolute GREATEST. Right on Gal, Ken not only makes this event happen, but it unfolds beautifully and is SUPER as in super topo.

Music this year was AWESOME. ....as were raffle prizes, the incredible quality of the participants from around the world....Peter and his wife, along with son Finn from Switzerland, and Peter's Mom Meg from Tasmania who came with them also...Such a great Event. Sweet ! Lynnie be prayin for all of you who shared goals, plans and life objectives. Joy and Peace to you All.

After spending two years at the facelift, I have one important observation:

Jstan could kick BURT BRONSON'S behind. He not only found ALL the trash collected, but carried it all to the facelift himself, then recycled it by crushing it in his own hands.

Beware BURT BRONSON, there is a new manly man in town...

I guess this is the thread on which to thank Ken for an awesome Facelift.
It was my first, not the last for sure.
It seemed to run so smoothly, for me at least, go get the bags, go get some trash, turn it in. Lots of friendly volunteers to help out.
People actually stole wine? That's low.

Thanks again Ken!

Who's Burt Bronson?

I still vote for Joe Brown myself. Tell you why.

In Crew's "Black Cliff" he tells a story of the time Joe and Don were sitting at the back of the pub at Cloggy, when a breathless lad runs in and says, "Joe and Don are in the valley! Has anyone seen what they are climbing?" All of you who know something about Don, realize of course, that after hearing this Don was already standing up so he could go over and clock the idiot. But, according to the story, Joe said as only Joe could, "Ahm Brown. Ees Whillans."

Joe does not, as a rule, call attention to himself. Why did he say anything? Here's why. He knew Don was getting ready to start a fight and if there were a fight everyone in the pub would soon find themselves standing outside in the cold rain. From this I concluded Joe absolutely hates climbing in the cold rain. He's not crazy you know. Anyone who hates the cold rain but does all the stuff Joe did has to be one super gnarly dude.

You may think this is all speculation. It isn't. In the Valley Saturday I talked to a Brit. He told me Joe has retired to Morocco. It is warm and dry in Morocco.

The stolen wine brings up something that has bothered me. We are all friends trying as hard as we can to achieve something together at Facelift. Right? DNC puts on a huge feast with lots of food. How is it the last people in line don't get any?

This just should not be.

It absolutely should not be.
