Yet another new spot on the map...first day of climbing and exploring...Mojede first scouted and photographed the area last winter, but it takes awhile to go check out everything the man has went and looked at.
Unfortunately Moj couldn't make it, so we pushed ahead armed only with the knowledge of a few photos and a decent idea of the location...
Sucking Inert Gases
Fun on a big slab
Still a project
Another fun pebble
There was alot more I didn't have time to snap photos of...but I'm sure we'll be returning to the area...
Hope you got out and climbed as well....

wow, I can see it now, a pebble guide to Montana... there are a lot of pebbles there! an you know them all...

That's kinda the eventual idea Ed...except just for the Batholith area. Montana's a big place...
There actually is a (select)bouldering guide for Montana in the process...but I shouldn't get myself started on the issue...
Mojede - It's the 'new bourbons'...the stuff on the northside of the private inholding. Guess that really wasn't a hint...

A real hint may have been more fun, but I get the gist--there's a whole bunch of stone over there, glad to see that you got to finally do a foot tour of the area.

So much rock...I ran around for awhile trying to get a grasp on the area, but after realizing how big it was, I figured I'd just get oriented to the front side of it...didn't get back to the really orange stuff...

looks like fun-- nice to have an area with cool exploring.
lots of dead confiers in those pix. a recent fire? or something worse? i can't see any char in those photos.

ips? that's pretty sad. lots of the sierras look like that. overgrown, ueber-dense, and more and more dead and dying pines waiting for the next fire.
cool looking area, though. maybe one of these days ill get back up north.

I think it's the Mountain Pine Beetle rather than the IPS, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's been pretty hard on the forest...People have been logging it out a fair amount from what I've seen, but it seems to be killing trees at a much faster rate...

Hey Tom, fine work man. It's nice to see your crew getting after it so consistently. Very inspiring.
I was checking out some boulders the other day in the Tobacco Roots while scouting for elk. Unfortunately they were stuck under the truck. Maybe I should have gone out climbing instead.

Snow-
I was skiing fresh snow at Georgetown lake in the first week of September (about 5-6 inches). Took the dogs out 30 to 40 minutes. Also, was just at the shop getting my snowblower checked out.

Thanks y'all! cool to see this is still on the FP rather than pushed way back by the political talk....
Snow in June and snow in early September(none over the weekend) ...so two months snow free up here on the divide! Honestly though, as y'all have seen, only the coldest/hottest/snowiest days detour climbing out there. Very doable year-round.
EDIT: Kartch- sounds like unpleasant situation with the truck. Hope you get yer elk...and some climbing in too!
