Anyone know the skinny on this? This is the first time there has been a closure up there (to my knowledge) in the last 7 years and I am a little skeptical about the handling of it (lack of faith in the park rangers). What species, is it permanent (not likely due to the VERY unofficial signs (is it even a true closure??)), who's in charge, etc...

I am betting he refers to the Summit Rock closure at Castle Rock State Park near Saratoga...

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the one across the street from Castle Rock. But, jezz, you don't have to type with a stutter.

Summit Rock isn't part of Castle Rock SP, it's Sandborn-Skyline County Park Property.

Happy Birthday, Kev!!!!!

I was out there 2 weeks ago and there were no signs or barricades but I talked to a guy at CRSP last weekend and he said it's closed again.

That's all I know.

Closed again ? Last time I called up Sanborn-Skyline county park (parkhere.org) and left a message at their ranger station (408-867-9959). A ranger named Holly returned my call and said it was due to peregrine falcon nesting. Not sure about now though ..

Hey Kev, sounds like bird sex is getting out of control in the south eh? Almost time to start racking the Daisy Pump.

Summit Rock is my favorite roped climbing destination up there.

It must be "Summit" Rock near Lost Lake by Strawberry ,CA.
Can't you CA'ers come up with another half dozen names? How about " Widow Maker" on the North side of Deeth Peak?

Call Security.
They know what to do.
If it's closed, stay away from Eagle Peak.
That's my hood.
I'll be waitin in the brush with the Machete, just in case.
Full camo, so you won't know anything until you feel your back straps being pulled out by Big Ray.

Some time ago – was it June? – it was a nest with a falcon in it right in the middle of the rock next to 5.11 or 5.10, do not remember name. You had to grub the edge of the large hole were the nest was and get an angry look from the bird to make a clip. She – if it was she – was beautiful and fearless, but not aggressive. If the bird is still there means there are chicks. Looks like it’s the case given they closed the rock.

Drove by the trailhead on Saturday and saw a closure sign ('endangered species nesting').

Spoke to a ranger this morning from Sanborn-Skyline. They said the closure would probably be through spring 2009. The falcons are apparently only one of two nesting pairs in the entire county ! Pretty cool ..
