the "Summer Flowers" thread is getting long to download... and this is really just stuff going on in our backyard in Livermore....

I just got a FujiFilm S5Pro (refurbished) and have been playing around with it today for the first time. Here are some shots...

Nice shots Ed...here are a few from a private garden we visited on our trip to Panama.

They also had several ponds with beautiful feeder fish.

This one's in a pot on our back deck, rather than in the garden. Bolivian Rainbow peppers -- just a centimeter or so in diameter right now, but they'll get a little bigger and go through multiple color changes before they wind up heating up our food.

lovely roses! lately i've been enjoying wandering through nurseries and checking out flowers i'd like to plant one day.

something that makes a good gift for friends is a pretty plant, potted in a pot you decorated yourself. wish i had some pix of ones i've done.

for one friend, i decorated a pot with rhinestones, planted a gorgeous gerbera daisy, and wrapped it up in colorful tissue w/a ginormous ribbon.

for my grandma, i potted an aloe plant, and on the pot, painted designs i copied from ancestral puebloan pottery.

Great shots!! Love the bee!! Let me guess you were about 3 feet away, fully zoomed with a 55mm, maybe smaller?

Or are you a daredevil and got in close with a macro-lens, knowing that the bee had a job to do and couldn't be bothered by the likes of you or your lens!

P.S. If that thing came with a user manual, I suggest diving in and using that to the fullest. The more shots you get out of that the better.

P.S.S. Birds.... Bees... You trying to tell us something? LOL Who ever heard of Freudian Photography?

Yep, immature white-tailed kite--just looked in my bird book. The red eyes give it away.

Nice flowers you guys! And SS--what a great gift idea...living plants are my favorite, too. Speaking of which...

Those Rainbow peppers looks sooo cool. do they have flavor, not just heat?

This is the first time I've grown Bolivian Rainbows, but my experience with hot peppers so far has been that anything I've grown myself has flavor as well as heat. But I think it does depend on growing conditions, including soil, water, temperature, amount and angle of sun, etc etc etc.

I grew some Bulgarian Carrot peppers last year and found them to have great flavor as well as plenty of heat. But when I was shopping for this year's seeds I saw a bunch of thumbs-down reviews of Bulgarian Carrots with warnings about "flavorless crap." So who knows?

Here are a couple more garden shots

hey there all.. say, i hope someday to share some pics.. flowers, etc.. and whatever... i think i learned how to do the photo "place" that you all speak of...

say, i love flower pics.. thanks for sharing...

once where i lived in mich, nearby, i had the pleasure of walking in a "typical" field out here.. .and over a few months, (as flower rotate in blooming) i had spotted about 70 different wild flowers... it was just great...

times and fields such as these, in many a city, are disappearing... thanks all for the share...

no, a FujiFilm S5 Pro...
since I haven't shot digital I thought I'd just ease into it. The advantage of this particular camera is its dynamic range.

When I know what I want, I'll consider a D3 (or a D700). But I'll shot like crazy with this beast and learn the business.

So far it's fun!
