Hoping someone could assist me in locating information on a local crag near Carson City.
I thought I had managed to climb at just about every little crag in the North/East Tahoe and Reno area. However, last week I managed to finally go explore the hidden little crag three miles upstream from Dinosaur Rock near Spooner Summit. Was pleasently suprised to find so many interesting things to do on these short formations down in the bottom of Clear Creek Canyon. Much more interesting and expansive than Dinosaur Rock imo.
Though there were certainly signs of previous climbing activity, old piton about midway up the overhanging lower wall which is around 70' tall with a multitude of roofs for example. Not much to show of recent activity. No one around here seems to know much about the place.
Anyone know what the history of this place is? Knowledge of what has or possibly what has not been done?

Is it 3 miles past Dinosaur up old Hwy 50?
Mark Miller or the Big Kahuna would know.

Had checked that place out a couple of years ago thinking "new area" then saw the piton and old bolt. Could be a great place in the heat of the summer. Unfort. don't know the history but would like to know.

Mark Miller or Big Kahuna
Would appreciate an e-mail if you have any info on the history of this place.
Did about eight short routes there last week and had a good time. Hoping to get back soon. Definately a place to escape the heat on a hot day.

Let me know if you want to explore the area again. Dave from 'The Rage' said you had found a lot of other potential up there.

Yup Been there done that, It's actually kinda hidden nowadays, we used to be able to drive up that ol' clear creek road ( ol' highway 50) to the base( opposite side of the creek) and in late summer the creek crossing wasn't anything, Good find if you dug it out yourself. I hiked by it about 3 weeks ago and remembered the last time I was up there with Kirk Miller(16 years ago +/-). We almost cut a rope hanging off the top and working moves through the steep. That rock has potential but will need some significant cleaning efforts, not unlike Dino, Cave and many other prized locations. in This neck of the woods.
In those days we didn't care about lines or routes we just went out to climb stuff. The obvious dihedrals have been hung through by us and probably better (Paul Crawford or Dano) so if you want to develop the area have at it Sir. Watch out down low there's a ranch where the Dawgs are out on the approach. If this is even the area your talking about......There are alot more hidden crags around CC .....Maybe knott as tall but still worthy.

Call Ron Sidearm Anderson. He knows everything. I think he works for Bundy Taxidermy when he's not selling M-14s....

Hey BTW
I forgot to mention, if you get bored with the regular stuff at Washoe, wander around a bit. There's more rock down the hill toward the lake. The little granite plug you pass by on Goni heading up to the boulders has a few short routes on it too, that you can actually rope up for if you want (unless you like highball). And up past the cinderlite pit that you park below for the boulders, there's a bunch more rock up there too. Most people just do the established problems up at Washoe. Go poke around, there's a lot to see.

Granite snob here. That's some of the ugliest rock I've ever seen! Nasty to touch too. Interesting geology on those hillsides, mix of granite boulders and volcanic plugs? Guess I'm still not much of a boulderer, had more fun messing with the bachelor herd hanging out.
(HORSES people, haha.)

Yeah, ain't much to be choosy about near downtown Carson. You want better, head up to the lake. Otherwise, your gona have to redefine the limits of your expectations.
