John Svenson's work used to show up in Climbing Magazine.
Some years back, I believe there was an article showcasing his stuff.

It's quite evident that the artist had really been there in those wild places.
The figures are portrayed with characteristic humility while the vertical landscape is showcased with grandeur and a certain linear elegance.

Here is his web site:
http://www.extremedreams.com/index2.html

Anybody else got more?
I'd love to see it.

Roy,

I don't know how you do it, time after time. You've got that whole scanner gig wired!

I always loved his work too. I'll be trying to copy one of those in my own meager way now. I'll check out his site too. Thanks man,
B

I love the kind of pure sillouette ones the best I think.
I'm not sure I get the more mummy-wrap look, even though I'm an artist. Just going for the pure line thing?...

Image number three looks like Thank God Ledge, eh?
Too cool.

What's the copyright here? All I want is a big assed tatoo on my right shoulder. Think he'd mind? How would I get in touch with him? Great as a black and white.

I'm hoping some other people might have some mags lying around they can scan some from.

I scanned those above from Climbing Magazine 1978 to 1982; much thanks to Hoss Julia for sending me that primo stack.

I'm still holding a number of the cartoon/comic strip variety and I want to do a separate thread for those, unless I see a need to use them to bump this thread.

Hey thanks for "drawing" our attention back to his art.

I'll keep my eyes out for more.
Great stuff, interpreted in a inspiring simplistically way.

Been there done that...lovely.

Hey Roy, got some OLD Ascent mags and they have some great drawings by John Svenson, Carol Ingram, M.K. Berrier-Petranoff and cartoons by Allison Clough and Samivel. I'm a complete RETARD when it comes to computers, got a scanner, but have no idea how to go from scanning to supertopo. would love to get these to you to put on the thread.
Peace

Hey,

Good news. I got permission from John to do a tatoo of one his drawings! Right shoulder, here comes some pain.

Not to say that he has given total, overall permission to do that, but I gave him specifics, etc. and he gave me the ok.

What is cool, is that it is in black and white, long lasting and easy for a skilled artist to do.

Super cool dude, all he wanted was a .jpg of the final result. Now to pick the artist. I know of a few I'd like. Anybody know of someone REALLY special? On this, dollars are not a limitation.

Wanted to get a tatoo of some fingers/hands in the crack of my butt once, ya know, jamming or fighting the rounded, flared edge of the crack. It was a BAD idea, so I passed. Sam I hope the art turns out coolio for you, great idea and can't argue the subject.
Peace

sammylee, I see my cousin in 2 weeks, I'll try to get the name of his Japanese tattoo artist from LA. She and he won an international competition a decade ago for his Lakota inspired tattoos. (He's half)
