http://www.terra-quest.com/highsights/index.html

" Someone told me that blind people need to realize their limitations;
but I think it's more exciting to realize my potential."

    Erik Weihenmayer

hey there.... say, here is a few note, from the site about erik:
IT IS WELL WORTH taking a read there, check out the links:

Erik Weihenmayer is an English teacher and wrestling coach in Phoenix, Arizona. Though only 28, he has climbed to the 20,320-foot summit of Denali in Alaska, trekked the Inca Trail in Peru, traversed the world's second largest glacier in Pakistan, and crossed the jungles of New Guinea. He is also a certified scuba diver and parachutist, and was a varsity wrestler in high school. He is the core component of AFB HighSights: he lost his vision at age 13, yet his perseverance and courage have made him an inspiration to the tens of thousands who know his story.

Erik began rock climbing at 16, and found that through trial and error, he could achieve more than he had been told was possible. "When I sat on the top of a 100-foot cliff with my feet dangling over the edge, the heat of the rocks beneath my hands, and the sound of space all around me, I knew I could get to the top of almost anything I set my mind to," he once wrote. "I finally understood that blindness would sometimes be a nuisance, would often make my life difficult, but would never be a barrier in my path!"

http://www.terra-quest.com/highsights/rock/hsteam.html

a climber named HANS FLORINE, who you all must have heard of, (has a record of climbing el cap, at that time, of doing it in 27 hours, three times).... he was also on the team...

also, they had a medical technician, i think it said...

just wondering if you or anyone ran into them all....

hey there say, ... okay okay... :)

last bump of some of my old FIRST threads...

i just recently GOT a neat surprise from lilabiene, and wow...

it was from erik weihenmayer's ENCOURAGEMENT 'stuff'

she sent me a necklace:

starts out, on the paper, that it comes on, saying:
"not out of reach"
"not beyond reach"

really very special, one side in english, and one side in
english braille...

and when i got it from her...
i DID remember way back, to when i first learned about erik,
and then, i POSTED it here...

wow, how about that... it was in 2007...

thank you audrey for the memories...
it is all twice as more, fun, tonight... :)

Neebee ,
I think that your posts get silent respect. I've been reading your bumps. This post reminds me of having to blind my way from the base of Serenity Crack to the lot at the Ahwahnee. It was deep black and I just had to centipede my way down. It's pretty short so the learning curve was really high and the suffering pretty low. A couple if times, I would be down-feeling the abyss with my legs and I really tapped in to the bug brain to wind my way down safely.
That was the real meaty experience of the evening. I got to the van and the headlamps and started back up to retrieve my gear and girlfriend and the way was absolutely covered in big millipedes. The feely world is pretty intense.

hey there say, flip flop...

i don't remember if i ever found a link again, but i am sure that i read
of a rescue one, a climber group...

they were stuck up somewhere, all through the night... (europe?)
and for some reason, they knew they had to get out of there...

started feeling their way, down, like what you did...

from what i remember, it was a really intense thing... :O
it makes you marvel at what the human brain, and the spirit to
even WANT to, is... whewwww...

thank you so very much for your post...
i remember way back, when i posted many of these, that
there must someone who could sure see how 'deep these erik's DESIRE was'
to:

step into , not only the greatoutdoors, but--into the UNKNOWN, though, known, ... well, you know what i mean, :)

*and, you are right, the feely works, for sure, KEEPS you thinking, and far more, when one has no clue that 'the best things of help' may be 'nearby' but you are tested to find other options, within your 'framework, at that moment'...
