An incredible ingathering of the clan, six generations in one room, counting the kids. I don't have a photo of the main event, but here is a smaller (four-generation) gathering at the Mountain Brauhaus a few days earlier.

A key to those in the picture:

1: Mike Sawicki

2: Rob

3: Bob D'Antonio

4: Top to bottom: Gene Smith, Iza Trapani, David Feinberg

5: Top to bottom: Russ Clune, Rich Romano, Burt Angrist

6: Top to bottom: Steve Wunsch, Anka Angrist, Rick Cronk

7: Top to bottom: Jeff Gruenberg, Laura Smith, Richard Goldstone

8: Back row L to R: Eric Keto, Mark Robinson
Front row L to R: Marcia Wunsch, Barbara Devine

9: Back row: Susan Robinson
Front row L to R: Rich Perch, Sue Rogers

10: L to R: Joe Bridges, Mara Goldstone

What was it Joni Mitchell said? You don't know what you got till it is gone.

Very happy to see it isn't.

Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell, 1972)

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot,
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot.
Don’t it always seem to go
That you don't know what you’ve got ‘til it's gone,
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot.

etc etc.

Luckily none of the forebodings in the song seem to have come true, at least not at the Shawangunks, in part due to the efforts of jstan and friends. Part of it is, sadly, closed, but no one seems to be planning to pave it.

Maybe one of the most emotional weeks of my life. Seeing everyone and how well most of us are doing was/is heartwarming.

The Preserve did a wonderful job on the main-get-together on Saturday night.

The Gunks is a very special place with very special and wonderful people. Thanks to all of you who played a very large part in my life.

I will post some photos in a day or so when I get back to Colorado.

Looking forward to more photos, Bob. I never got to the Gunks in ye olde days, but met a few of those folks when they drifted out west. Steve W and I did a few climbs together.

It sure was great to be apart of the Gunks family reunion.
One of the particularly touching moments for me was when my 9 year old daughter topped out for her first time on rock. She made me wait before lowering her on top rope saying, "wait daddy, I want to take all this in." The friends and fall colors made this weekend magical.
