I didn't know him, but he seemed like quite the character and the type of guy a lot of STers would have liked meeting!
He passed away recently from a soloing accident on the Bastille Crack (Eldorado Canyon, Colorado).

There are a lot of nice posts about him and one really good story, on "Mountain Project". According to the Denver Post, he was free-soloing Bastille Crack when he fell.
