Thanks for everything. We were a scorned bunch, to be sure, and rightfully so quite often.

But I learned a lot from many of you, and I will miss dialoguing and discussing politics and world events with other climbers.

Sure, there are other venues for such discussions, and I've explored many of them. But none of them have really appealed as much as the oftentimes dysfunctional, but always stimulating crowd I found here at ST.

And to Chris & RJ- I completely understand and support your desire to not see the kind of general icky-ness associated with political threads as a part of your vision for ST. If any of my posts contributed to the demise of ST, I am deeply sorry for that.

For whatever it's worth, the ST polititards have been a valued part of my experience at ST, and a small part of my life. I'll miss many of you, and having this venue to gain insight to other points of view. Thanks again, everyone.

check out Hip Forums.
They talk politics, but there are a lot of different topics as well.

Looked into that the other night, 10b...it's....interesting.

Not at all the same, though, as the community that we had here. I'll very much miss it.

Bugger it all, I just stopped in here and picked up my immigration papers.
Soon I’ll only have a bunch of penguins to argue with...

Politards are lucky, internet forums for them are abundant, for climbers....not so much.

Perhaps, but finding a forum of climbers who are interested in politics is a tall order.

If we’re hard to please, then we’re pleased less often. As usual, I think that it’s not so much about them as it is about us. I feel pretty lucky myself, and I hope for y’all that you do too.

Cheers people!

I would like to say something very political at this moment that is beyond a doubt true, but it would probably tick off everyone, and then I would probably get the boot.

How would that be to get kicked-off of ST the last few days of ST forum's existence? I could just see it now: Klimmer got kicked off (again) right at the very end. Bah-hah-hah ...

Lol

So I will refrain. But man ... was it gonna be good.

Don’t refrain...go for the boot. The arbitrary nature of booting people will be something I won’t miss when ST sinks below the waves.

I was a sporadic contributor to the political forums but was also happy to adhere to climbing content only. I'm here because of climbing.

That said, and as Jim Suggests- Klimmer, I'll go first.

Fuk Trump and his carpetbagging family! His supporters are a bunch of Dunning-Kruger suffering dipshits who are supporting a narcissistic piece of sh!t at the peril of our country, environment and wellbeing! Richard, I'll see you in hell!!! Just kidding there...

When you get to the point that you realize that you know nothing of the real truth of what is going on and that every media story is an attempt at manipulation and narrative you will no longer be a religious politard .

With every truth you try to distill out, you are trying to take into consideration as many variables as possible. It’s hard to see the truth even with our own reality and lives everyday. Always multiple ways to to view a reality and this becomes more and more apparent as we get older, wiser and less selfish and self-absorbed.

With media it’s the opposite / one variable or a few variables are presented with many other distracting variables hidden or not reported. Always done to support or buttress an ongoing narrative and existing hive mind. And I don’t even know if it’s all about power anymore - seems to have become some deluded mess, mixed with ratings, personal vendetta, poor communication, ego, delusion, profits and virtue signaling.

I’ve read maybe three media stories in 4 years where bias, narrative and variables weren’t obvious. It’s so easy to find bias now because both media extremest groups aren’t even trying anymore to look accurate. As far as TV, I have no idea how anyone watches it anymore. But turning it off is akin to deprogramming from a cult. Your brain just starts seeing other things.

The radical leftists have lost a lot of games the last few years for good reason - but hold my drink!! Here comes the right wing nutters again with draconian women’s choice laws and maybe an Iran war. Our species is stupid. I saw realty in Madagascar and Africa that would make you vomit on a Tesla . We’re destroying it all at faster rates and it’s never going to stop.

And so it goes - back and forth extremists - politards along for the ride.
Be it religious, totalitarian, king, Rome, dictator or anyone of the ideologies all through history.
You’re being manipulated.

You too Wilbeer!!!

Radical- Your excellent post: This is an example of why I'll miss the political discussions.

I'll also miss Richard's posts but I suppose I could read all 1,088 pages of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged when I'm feeling down.

that was funny as all get out. Brutal.. but seriously made me laugh.

Sorry Richard, but it is funny.

I sure wish that we could figure out how to have decent discussions on politics. The occasional gibe is totally fine to me. Its the constant barrage that wears me out.

Ah well.. I learned a lot over the years here. Some of it was even useful. hahaha

I sure wish that we could figure out how to have decent discussions on politics.

That presupposes a requisite level of literacy and basic manners sorely lacking here.
