The time has come! Weigh in on yer favorites. It's Sagan's 10th gig. I'm beginning to think he's sliding into a decrescendo. Sure, he's likely to snatch a few stages but I'm thinking this tour he'll be scrapping hard to take the Green Jersey. Bruce?

I am in Boulder rock climbing for a few months so I will miss the race, but I think this year has the potential to be one of the best GC battles in years! With the likes of Richie Porte, Rohan Dennis(former teammates), George Bennett, Rigo Uran, etc. Boy, it sure would have been nice to have Sepp Kuss in California and not at the Giro. That kid is going places!

I hope that Sagan can win a stage or two, but this year it just seems like nothing is going right for him. That happens in pro cycling. On paper it looks like the race will be decided on Mount Baldy, but again, you never know what can happen in pro cycling. Get ready for some great racing!

Did you hear that Cavendish's car ran out of gas on his way to the airport in the UK and he almost missed his flight to CA? I hope Cav can win a stage as well, but I fear that his best days might be behind him.

Also sorry to hear that Kittel has taken a, hopefully short, break from cycling. When a sprinter is in the zone, he can be unbeatable. It's combination of speed, skill and absolute lack of fear. Maybe Alex Honnold could be a good field sprinter!

George Bennett was out here training in Colorado. He's looking thin and fit!

Saw one of the AMGEN Tour pro teams from Europe at Steady Eddys Coffee House in Winters yesterday . They looked like they had not been in the sun since last Summer.

Nah, I didn't hear about that.....HAHA!! Yah, The Manx Missle just doesn't have the 'rocket fuel' he used to have. Wonder how Tejay is doing these days?

Nice to see Travis McCabe so close. He's a nice guy who will hopefully get another chance to win a stage before the race finishes.

Tejay has switched coaches and is now being coached by Allen Lim. Let's hope that will make a difference.

WTF? Race isn't over and NBC just cut TV coverage. For guys talking about hockey.

Why even tune in in the first place, if we can't see the end of the race?

Today's stage 3 appeared to be a rest day for the peloton after a long day to Lake Tahoe yesterday hence the race was behind schedule. On NBCSN they showed the winner cross the line and then cut to hockey.

A few years ago I remember talking to the NBCSN producer about the cutting away. He told me that one day they ran over and cut into the hockey broadcast late so the next day they had to cut the finish and respect the hockey fans.

It's an easy ride from our house up to Mt Baldy (well, not at all easy but reasonable close). My husband and his cycling friends are heading up there on their bikes tomorrow to watch the stage. I'll post a few pictures if he takes any good ones.

Thanks Mr Hilderbrnd. All your posts are interesting and informative for us race fans!

Friday's Mt Baldy race starts, as far as I can tell, at the exact spot where the start-finish line was at the long-gone Ontario Motor Speedway.
On Concours st, off of Ferrari ln. I doubt that's intentional, seeing how OMS has been gone for 40 years.

Hey Bruce, I wonder if Taylor will pull another "sneak away" today on the way to Ventura? 'Member?

LOL, Bruce, yes it's tomorrow, Friday. I've been doing a lot of coming and going and I get my days confused sometime!

On another cycling related note, we just heard that our friend Jenna Rollman, took a Bronze Medal in her first World Cup Race at the Paracycling World Cup in Ostend, Belgium. So excited for her!!!

Mooch,

the thing I remember about Taylor's late race attack is that only a few weeks later he had that horrible crash at Pro Road Natz. The Phinney family was talked out of suing USA Cycling, but it was clear that it has had a major impact on his career and it was totally the fault of the race moto driver who clearly had no clue how fast pro riders can go on descents.

These days when I watch racing on TV I play a little game I call "what is that moto doing in the race?" Frankly, I can't figure out what 50% of the motos are doing except getting in the way.

BTW, if you are wondering about the race jury's decision regarding Tejay, it has happened before in the AToC in 2007.

In that instance, Santa Cruz local, Ben Jacques-Maynes, lost out on the jersey.

Phylp, congrats to Jenna!

I want to watch the blow by blow of stage 2 but all I find are a few highlights. YouTube and the Amgen website aren't showing archives. Anybody know if it's out there?
