Anyone of y'all into skiing the don't fall stuff ?
Check yourself into Betty Ford's now.
Seriously though I have a question:
Would you trust Dynafit bindings in these situations ? That being
say 55* icy fall you die skiing. I have always skied my alpine race
skis and never had a release. I now have a Dynafit randonee setup
and they seem fairly solid sofar in low consequence tests. This setup
is so much lighter I would like to adopt it. I can't seem to find much
online... thoughts ? experiences ?

People who do this with Dynafit lock their toe pieces.

There's a gob of info online with respect to steep skiing and Dynafit bindings.
Search "wildsnow" for example. Or, Mclean's straight shooter website. Or, if you don't mind the raspyness, the TGR website.
With avy conditions low and the snowpack reasonable, the kids are skiing the steeps here for sure. Most seem to sport a dynafit binding. Y coulior has nearly got moguls, and, even the Great White Icicle is seeing some action.
Feller I knew skiing in the St. Elias range in AK, pulled out to shoot photo's of friends and popped into a crevasse. Only thing between him and the inky blackness was one of those little toe clips...

Here's another SLC local skier who does steep stuff:
https://www.noahhowell.com/
He's a dynafit/tech binding user.
I've got a fair number of daze on Dynafit binding, but, will admit to not skiing since last night (ha ha). I'm fair sized and don't really ski steeps like I used to (lazy low angle powder skier) but can honestly say, in 100's of days in the backcountry using Dynafit bindings (and very few in area), that I've never pre-released. Only released the heels a couple of times going over the handle bars. Never the toe.
But, YMMV.

I definitely lock my Dynafit toes if skiing any "no fall" situation.
Re. whether they are suitable for steep technical skiing, this should answer your question:
Check the link for the photo of the old volcano heels!

Mount Everest Skied With Dynafit Bindings
Post by WildSnow.com blogger Lou Dawson | October 20, 2006
Well, if this isn’t the final word on Dynafit, I don’t know what is. I just learned from my deep cover mole at Life-Link what bindings Kit and Rob DesLauriers and Jimmy Chin used for skiing off Everest. They’re calling it the “hardest skiing they’ve ever done 5,000 vertical of bullet proof down the Lhotse Face.” Yes indeed, Dynafit across the board. And Dynafit boots as well:
Kit DesLauriers – 2 buckle boots (tlt4 light)
Rob DesLauriers – 1 buckle boots (tlt4 race)
Jimmy Chin – 3 buckles (but hey, he had to carry the camera)
Dynafit backcountry skiing bindings used on Mount Everest.
Spy photo taken in the Life-Link workshop after mounting Dynafit bindings used on Mount Everest by the DesLauriers and Chin. The skis are Volkl T-Rock.

Please don’t ski 55 degree ice, you’re freaking me out. I love Dynafits but if I had the balls to ski something like that, I’d want some beefy alpine bindings. If you can carry your balls, you can handle the weight penalty of heavy bindings.

Almost as rad as all of those guys and gals in the Wastach who think they are bad ass for skiing MT. Superior 😳
If MGK were still an infamous internet skier, he would have one word to say:
RESPECT!

Respect, but... I've never understood how that kind of skiing could be any fun. Do people actually enjoy side-slipping 5000 ft with an occasional jump turn?

LOL! Nailed it, Bale! Unsurprisingly, I wouldn't enjoy that either. I prefer continuous movement in both skiing and climbing, but to each his own...

Yup, I do somewhat agree.....and other than for the sheer survival factor, not so exciting to watch.

Depends what you mean by "kinda" and "don't fall stuff."
Does that include the U-Notch?
Thunderbolt Colouir?
Mountaineer's Route?
North face of Whitney?
I've skied all those, and more, on 3-pins and leather boots.
I've skied the Mountaineer's Route on 3 pins. It always has a butt-glissade trough down the middle, so there's a lot of hopping on the way down.
I skied the N face of Whitney on 3 pins. That was the most rewarding descent that I've ever done. You can go off some cliffs if you fall, or don't pick your line carefully.
Let me tell you, a fall down the U-Notch ain't pretty. Got f*#ked up in a fall when I was skiing alone in the Palisades. After putting the misbehaving joint back into its socket, I managed to stagger out under my own power with some of my gear. Had to heal for a few weeks before going back up there to get my tent, sleeping bag, and skis.
There's a fine line between bravery and foolishness.

SLR, that’s awesome! Amazing to hear what folks have skied with 3-pins and leather. We have it pretty good with gear these days.
Spectreman, nice vid. Love the footage of straightlining ice.
