Hope the two dug out were the only ones involved. I didn't see anything in the link that mentioned deaths.

Is Taos still skis only?

The articles I read said both are in critical condition at hospitals, one in Taos, one in Albuquerque.

Sounds like only two were buried.

Best wishes to the injured skiers.

Haven't been to Taos since around 87. It was chosen because the heathens were now allowed. Times change.

Wishing for recovery of those dug out. I can't imagine the fear being buried in an avy. Cheers to the rescuers.

When I picked up my son from swim practice last night he told me he had skied the same chute (K3) this past Saturday.

A little more of a detailed article:

Condolences to the family and friends of the fallen skier,
Jackson hole was hit with a massive lawsuit after a skier death in a permanently closed area.

It just occurred to me that the Kachina Peak chair must be rather new, because we always had to hike Kachina. Anyone know when that lift was installed?

I quit going to Taos when they started letting in the riff-raff. Wolf Creek was a much better option if you gotta deal with snowboarders.

We skied there 1991 and 2016. In 1991 we lost a ski there in deep pow. In 2016 I knew better and carried probe shovel beacon. Wouldn't go there without. Place gets the snow.

SLR, that is because Wolf Creek is a FLAT, piece of sh it mountain. Gets hammered with some great powder, and there are some steep runs but being on a board there... lots of post holeing and skateing flat cat walks. And why all the hating on boards? Its young d#@&%ebags that suck to be around and there are plenty of preppy, arrogant little squeiers on mountains every day.

I was at Taos just a few days before that, lots of snow the past couple weeks. The Kachina lift was added a few years ago. I had a wipeout on Kachina a few years ago and a ski edge sliced my knee open. A ski patroller came down to check on me and it turned out to be Dave Hahn.

Wolf Creek is flat? Dunno, I was always hiking out on Alberta Peak and skiing the Waterfall area. Snorkel skiing, where the powder is so deep that you can't feel the bottom. I remember the old snow cat that dragged you back to the lifts.

I loved taking snowboarders out past Alberta 'cause there were some flats and they'd get stuck out in the middle of no where and had to post-hole back. See ya, MF!

Another avalanche death

Colorado
Quote Here

https://www.koat.com/article/sheriff-1-dead-after-colorado-avalanche/25980389

QThe Colorado Avalanche Information Center said a group of backcountry skiers was there when the victim was buried. Others uncovered the victim, but they were unable to revive the person.

The center previously reported a special avalanche advisory, saying conditions would be dangerous from Saturday morning to Monday night.

Since Jan. 11, the center has documented more than 280 avalanches and 10 people caught in avalanches.

A man was killed in an avalanche near Aspen, Colorado, authorities said Monday, the same day that relatives confirmed the second victim an avalanche last week in New Mexico had died.

Waterfall area is great... until it flattens out. I've had some of my deepest powder days there, only to post hole for ever. It's a great mountain... for skis.
