President Donald Trump stormed out of a bipartisan meeting with congressional leaders and rallied the Senate GOP to his position on the border wall, raising the prospects for the longest government shutdown of all time and increased speculation that Trump could soon declare a national emergency.
After speaking with Senate Republicans, the president cut short his meeting with Democratic and Republican leaders after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she would not fund his border wall regardless of when the government reopens. The president tweeted the meeting was a "total waste of time."

I don't know if it's the vitriol that gets the political threads chopped, but lets see if that's what does it, by acting decently to each other.
Thetes NO reason to be insulting to other forum people, no matter if we hold opposite political beliefs.
So, if someone does make a nasty or antagonistic remark, just let it be like water on a ducks back. DON'T respond to insults or trolling posts.

I don't know if it's the vitriol that gets the political threads chopped,
I don't know either, but that recent one ("Any new political news") was, at least in the last couple of days, pretty civil. The only thing that seemed a bit ugly was WBraun stalking a couple of people and saying nasty things, but most of us just ignore him anyway. And given that everyone else was behaving fairly reasonably, what led to the chop?
Who knows? One of the unsolvable mysteries of the universe.
But I'm with you on the "let's keep this one civil" thought.

Happiegrrrl2! Hey, totally agree! Great statement. Thinking today something similar. Just why can't we get along? We can listen to our friends around the campfire, think about what's said and perhaps adjust what you think or not. Everyone of us can learn from each other. It does not really have to be my way or the highway.

What got that thread locked was the attention brought to it by Ross Rondez hate speech post
Well, that sucks. Why nuke a thread to which many people have contributed thoughtful posts just because someone dumps some hate into it? Why not nuke that one post, and the person who posted it, and let the rest of those interested continue their discussion?

Wasn't my thread. I almost never post on the politard threads. But I do read them, and the most uncivil voice -- by a huge margin -- is yours.
What is it about "antichrist" (whoever he/she might be) that gives you such a hate boner? Do you spend your entire waking hours searching supertopo for his/her latest post just so you can piss on it?
