I am pleased to announce that the Granitica Festival 2019 will be happening in Flagstaff over Memorial Day weekend May 25-26 at the Flagstaff Aquaplex located at 1702 North 4th Street Flagstaff, AZ 86004. The theme is: The Soft Parade- Sedona Climbing and we will be examining the history of climbing in Sedona over two full days from 10 AM to 6 PM with a host of speakers discussing their adventures with image support as possible.
Third time is the charm here and we look forward to a fantastic event with a Sindicato banquet open to all attendees to be held on Memorial Day at the Fort Tuthill County Campground Group sites B, C and D. Details on the speakers roster will be forthcoming as I hear back from everyone. Right now we have Paul Davidson, Jim Haisley, Lee Dexter, Scott Sellers, Bill Hiscox, Tom Taber, David Lovejoy, Tim and Larry Coats, Jeff Snyder, Zach Harrison, Jake Dayley, John Mattson, Laura Sabourin, Tim Dolan, Glenn Rink, Mike Lawson, Stan Mish, Blake McCord and Derek Field.
Tickets are available through the Flagstaff Climbing Center for $30 plus tax and can be purchased here http://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/ws?studioId=31814&stype=43&prodid=14069
This is a rare opportunity to come and hear about the adventures of several generations of Sedona climbers past and present and meet these folks. Don't miss it!

The chalk cliffs of Dover, Sedona is not!
I did see a steep ribbon of ice that was close to 1000' long poking around there one winter though.

Will you post up info for lodging like you did for the great Oakdale places.....clean, quiet and not expensive?

Lynne- Because there is going to be a Sindicato banquet held in connection with this particular Festival I needed to schedule it around a Monday holiday and ended up with Memorial Day. That doesn't make for the easiest or cheapest motel bookings for me or any other out of towners coming to the event. Flagstaff is a moderately large city and there are lots of options including camping. Folks that are interested in coming to the banquet are going to need to be able to camp out for that one night in any case as it will likely be held away from town either in Sedona or at a campground nearby Flag.
I am giving folks plenty of advance notice to make arrangements easier.

Lynne- The Sindicato Granitica is a social group of northern AZ climbers that started a club (for lack of a better way of describing it) back in the early 70's. They would throw banquets regularly and invite climbers from all over the state to get together and party. We haven't had one for decades so the time is ripe to do so again while everyone is still alive and kicking.
These guys set an example for community that has been the inspiration for a lot of the work that I now do with NACHA. The Beanfests down in Tucson were a direct outgrowth of the Sindicato banquets and our love of fun and proud regional camaraderie.

Jim- Judging by the events in Room 302 at Oakdale on a Saturday night 9 PM is the new 3:30. That bottle of Whistle Pig Rye didn't last 15 minutes!
I had to duck out early but everyone else seemed to pass Warren's Sustained Drinking Test admirably the next day.

Make sure to include presentations on the new routes going up in Sedona. The stuff going up in the past few years is 4 star quality climbing on very good rock, generally in the 5.11 and 5.12 range and between 4 and 9 pitches. These routes would be classic at any major climbing area including Red Rocks.

You could also include a presentation on All Systems Go, Sedona's hardest pitch. Just freed last year at 13+ after about 5 years of attempts by various locals.

Sedona's past is awesome but the present is pretty darn great too.
