I still use an old green Klettersack that I had from the late 70's. Had to speedy stitch the top pocket, but it's still going strong. I'll add a photo when I get home from work.

Bought this at the A16 gear swap back around ‘85 to hike the PCT... it was a Regular, but it was a good deal, even though I’m a tall guy. Made it as far as Idyllwild before I replaced it with a Sunrise Mountaineering down bag (long).
Somebody gave this to me a month ago...they were clearing out their storage. Not sure what I’ll do with it, but don’t have the heart to toss it.
I think I still have a Wild Ex fanny pack around somewhere...I’d like to be able to use it to carry my stuff when I’m waiting in the ‘cafeteria line in the nursing home’.

Didn’t know it was a brand. Thought maybe you meant a fur-lined jock strap.

all the tags and plastic bits have rotted away after too many trips in tropical climes. Bought in 1983.

Picked up this Wilderness X fanny pack for less than a buck. usually resell the vintage US gear, most often to someone in Japan. Keeping this one, handy for multi-pitch climbing

Stuff was handcrafted in Chatsworth...super durable. Chatsworth is also the center of an another extremely durable entity...the porn industry.
I still have, and use, a couple of duffles.

Donini - We picked Chatsworth because it was close to Stoney Point. But we then should have chosen the porn industry. Live and learn.

I bought this daypack in Jackson Hole while on my honeymoon in February 1981. We spent 2 weeks skiing at J Hole and Grand Targhee and used it to carry lunch. It didn't get a whole lot of use after that and is still in pretty good shape.

John Beck- A company in Japan registered the trademark Wilderness Experience for Japan and Hong Kong and are actually making some pretty high quality products. Someone visiting Hong Kong bought me one and it's nice...but most amazing was that the hang tag had my picture on it....from 1974.
7sacredpools, That the Meadow day pack. The only product in the Wilderness Experience product line that I designed. But it was a good day pack.
I recently scanned a bunch of old catalogs from 1971-1986 and put them on a website. If you happen to have a catalog that is not on the site I would love to scan it and include it..Thanks.

Thanks James, I see that Chinese stuff and assume it is a knock-off, nice to see that it is legit and solid gear. They might want to out source that ad writing though.

Hey Whatever happened to the thread of your offer of buying an old Wilderness Experience Klettersack for 150.00 that got a lot of interest but no offers? Proud owner myself.

Radish - actually I did get a couple of old Klettersacks from people...and I found one of eBay. All from the early 70s.
So, we'll see, but I'm pretty serious about making a copy of it, using the original patterns, materials and quality. Current plan is to do a kickstarter program for it and T-Shirts.
The project would move faster if the skiing wasn't so great at Mammoth!

I remember the mountaineering shop behind the Chart House 1982 and the display tents that had white out blizzards going on inside...Gmac was manning the snow gun...LMAO...

I have the blue version of the day pack that 7sacredpools posted a pic of. I bought it in 1978 in Humboldt and used it for everything. From lugging heavy loads of school books to doing 7 day backpack trips in the Sierra. That was brutal by the way, but it was all that I had and I really wanted to go.
I still have it and still use it.

Yep rottingjohnny,
That was Wilderness Sports....when I left Wilderness Experience with the idea of having time to play and climb again I bought the two stores that Wilderness Experience owned, The Mountain Shop in Northridge and Wilderness Sports in Mammoth. And you are right.....GMAC was the manager and the crew were all really fun. A whole lot of great stories, but unfortunately not enough profits.
The Mountain Shop did really well and at one time was the largest Chouinard/Patagonia single store dealer in the US. I loved that store, but when our lease was up the rent more than tripled so that made it hard to exist, especially after REI moved in a block away.
Super fun times!
