Looking for opinions on gyms near to Carlsbad/Encinitas, there appear to be several. Prefer the less "sceney" types. And those I've called aren't cheap, so would like to make best "investment" possible....

for bouldering only the Vital in Oceanside is great. Newer and good size and not as sceney as the Carlsbad Vital (so I am told, I am not into the scenes and be seen). Can get crowded during prime time, but mornings and late nights are great and it is open 24 hour.
Annual membership was 600 a year last time I checked.
bonus is admission to all Vitals, Bellingham WA and Brooklyn NY
Up for climbing anytime. Woodson is fun, You just gotta do Robbins Crack

Jon thank you! I got a month membership at vertical hold this evening. Planning a Woodson day after thanksgiving but able to go sooner also! I have animal duties daily at 7 am and 5 pm but otherwise free and have transport. Let me know - even if spontaneously - if you are going out and don’t mind a self sufficient noob tagging along

Had no idea, Xcon. You have a knack for filling in gaps in stories though ;)
Perhaps we shall cross paths in a finer gym than the one I chose (again, joking - for Pete's sake...(pun intended, PTPP). I think a conversation with you would be worthwhile.
