Hey, all.
I went up to do Snake Dike yesterday (14th time I think, not sure, brain is growing slower) and the scruffy corner one hikes up before heading left on slabs on when underneath the South Face had been hit by a rather large rock fall. It appears to be very recent as the "tick marks" were still dusty and there were rocks suspended in tree branches. Since there was a huge rainstorm last Tuesday (9/4/18), I'm guessing it occurred more recently than that since the "tick marks" should have been washed away.
Besides the possibility of more rock fall, it actually made the appraoch easier as the dense oak and manzanita have been largely pulverized.
Does anyone know about the timing of this rock fall?

The rocks were there early June on the fool moon, and I heard from another local that saw them several weeks before that. They looked pretty fresh at that time, but beyond that I am not sure.

Its been a while since that rock fall, as in at least a month or two. I saw a report on MP about the rock fall and that the person writing the report said the trail to the start was wiped out and he had to bail on the climb. I thought it was a little dramatic that he had to bail and couldn't find a work around.

Thanks for the corrections, guys. It's hard to tell how fresh rock fall is, but I thought I'd let the group know as it felt fresh.
Happy and safe climbing to all.

Yeah, likely that there was more than one event? I will say that a number of the pictures you posted looked exactly like what I recall.
And then there was that one tent, directly below the fall line on the west end of the lake...

I think it happened precisely at 11:38 am on September 9th.

We just went through the fall zone and didnt stop while there. Shrug. I have used the trail that avoids this part of the approach before... and I wont be doing that again. Perhaps we were just as dumb as the people illegally camped in the fall zone?

Mr. T.
Great job doing the Porcelain Wall!
Oh that descent with a haul bag would be tough. And the false ducks. No fun.

Those photos are great.
Both times I've done Snake Dike, we hiked the base of the South Face arch (someday, someday, someday) and then headed left on the horizontal ledge from there.
I am guessing that approach route was not affected?
