Sierra National Forest roads have been getting worse and worse. Some regular dirt roads now often have sections that are interesting in my moderately capable not afraid to be scratched toy 4x4 short bed. High clearance roads now often require something more than a outback. When I first moved to the area the guy who manned the shuteye lookout drove an old 2wd pick up. It would be super hard now. I used to see civics and such at dinkey lakes trail head all the time. I saw a civic almost out there last week but he was high centered in a dirt crater. I think they want to keep the public out. It might be somewhat effective if tard carts (utv's ) weren't so affordable. Despite all that I'm still glad it's on my backyard.

They spent all of their money on fires.

Still writing debt checks for the Aspen Fire and the French Fire in the Central Sierra.

Not a lot left for smoothing out the roads.

As an example, for the first time in over 40 years, we were given permission to grade and culvert over 2 miles of "Forest Service" road that leads to our place. Rules have always been that no private person can amend Federal land.

True, itt was one of those wink, wink, nod, nod kinda deals - but the reason was clear. They are out of dollars son.

Yeah, I know. The jeep trails are better maintained than the roads because the jeep clubs at least cut the trees that fall over the jeep trails. No money for the forest but we're gonna have a space force!
