I have a brand new Silent Partner, I got direct from Blanchard back in 1999.

I am thinking I would take $250 for it. Any interest?

Not 100% sure I want to sell it, though realistically my rope solo days are probably over. I used an earlier prototype soloing Moonlight Buttress back in the day, works great.

I'll take it for the asking price ($250) and can pay now.

I'm not sure how you want me to send my info and payment. I can PM you but it doesn't always work.

Actually just looked at eBay, and these things seem to be going for a lot more. Let me think about this for a bit...

Ps. Was hoping to gather a bunch of old gear and portaledges and stuff and put up for sale this summer, but was hit with a bit of health issues. Maybe i’ll Try to do a big sale next year. All funds to continue new portaledge R&D!

Alright I understand. I would love the opportunity to buy this if you do decide to sell. I have literally been looking for years and will not be reselling it.

Edit: I just realized you are the D behind the epic D4 ledges! I hope business is going well and can't wait to upgrade to one when the time comes.

You know I’ll take it off your hands John if the guy upthread balks. My advice is to hold onto it though.

The Revo didn’t turn out to be as good at soloing as it was rumored to be (now that I have one I see it as the SP will belay you like a champ and keep you off the ledge but the Revo will belay you like a drunken wall partner and keep you off the ground.

Right now the SP remains the gold standard for lead roped soloing in none freezing conditions.

$250 for that thing?

I'm in the wrong business. It only has ten parts.

Uh. Wait.

Does it have a ratcheting mechanism inside the pulley?

How does it work?

As to how it's work, if you're curious, take a look at the patent:

https://patents.google.com/patent/US4941548A/en?oq=US4941548A

Note that the patent has been expired for many years. Note that for the patent to have been valid, it should have taught someone of ordinary skill in the art how to make the device, but

I'm sort of surprised no one is making them, but having no fabrication skills myself, maybe it's tougher than it looks.

John,
Think you shoulda researched before you suggested $250 as the price?
Kinda bad form to change your mind after you have it listed and have an interested party.
But that's just my opinion.

Actualy he did not make a binding offer, therefore there can be no acceptance.

I am thinking I would take $250 for it. Any interest?

it was actually an invitation to negotiate. let the bidding begin

I have been using a modded grigri and clove hitches, have been hoping to upgrade to a better system for a while. Send me a message and lets work something out!

Sorry to tease. I am taking this to Australia with me, will probably loan it out to folks who want to solo with it. Really just like to see this gear gets used. If I decide later to sell in USA, I will honor the first responder here. Thanks.

Ps. Next summer, I plan to clean output a closet and will have a few hundred pounds of old gear/portaledges/haulbag/ etc.for sale, and will post here.

Heya- just teaching out regarding the Silent Partner... we had our silent partner stolen in a theft (was totally non climbers , they just grabbed a bag... don’t even know what the use of any of the gear was!)...now hustling to desperately try and find one before a trip in 3 weeks. My partner and I are travelling to Namibia in a few weeks and we are desperately trying to find one we can buy or loan to replace the one we had stolen (rage anger rage). I’m not going to be able to belay him but basically we have had our eye on this epic 400m slab granite new line and his vision is to lead solo bolt it. Suffice to say, we’d really like to try find a silent partner .. somehow .. anyhow... if you happen to know anyone who wants to sell OR if you might possibly be open to us paying you to loan it and leaving you with a deposit fill to secure it’s return we only need it for 3 weeks in April!!!!!!! Let me know if you happen to have any ideas or suggestions... willing to pay for shipping from wherever. Yours in eternal gratitude and slight desperation, Bronwyn

Bron, ditch the SP, skip the grigri, and get an Edelrid Eddy and pair it with stiffer 9.8 or 9.9 (I've used the Metolius(Tendon) 9.8 and currently use the Maxim 9.9 Glider). Have done 5k+ free, multipitch trad leads on it, about the same number on unmodded and modded grigris, before the Eddy came out. Used, but never cared for the SP.

Heya! Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I see you posted it to my partner Cole's post on the rope soloing FB page too. I've been busy watching videos on it. Why did you not like the SP at all? (apart from £££££££). Joining the FB group now myself too :)
