Since the U.S. can't even make it into the Idaho regional high school playoffs, I'll likely side with Mexico to make it to the remaining Four. Lots of good Group games this past week......Mexico proving themselves against Germany and South Korea. Stellar! Japan and Senegal in a draw but the playing was intense. And England crushing Panama!! OUCH! And in Group R.......Ronaldo!

I’m rooting for Mexico too. Fun to watch. They’ve never been to the final game. The country could use the recognition. They love futbol.

I'm rooting fer football season to start again.

Sorry, but I just find soccer pretty boring to watch. Maybe the lack of pizzazz felt for it in the USA is why we don't do well at it. That will probably change over time.

Soccer is fun to play, but I can't watch it for any length of time.

If you don't like soccer why open and comment on a soccer thread? No one cares if you don't like it.

Me, I'm all in for England and then Mexico.

To show our disdain, of course. Like you never do that on any other subjects!? Ha!

Constine.......I've seen you cry and whine on these threads for a whole lot less. LOL!!

Speaking of getting bent, here's Ronaldo bending it better than Beckham against Spain.

My heart says Germany but I believe it will be the Samba Boys, that is Brazil for the ones who chime in on a pick your World Cup winner thread and add nothing to the conversation except to say how lame soccer is. They look tough and mature. The Brazilian's not the grouchy's.

Uruguay. Though I'd like to see an African team win it all.

Anybody but a Euro team. Or Mexico.

I was initially rooting for Argentina but their squad seems to lack cohesion and their defensive backs were slow to keep up. And Messi seemed like he wasn't in it to win. They looked sloppy against Iceland. Columbia looks like a hot mess as well. Of course, Mexico is my pick but I think the dark horse in all this will be Portugal. Ronaldo is on fire!!

World Cup 2018....final teams

Portugul VS England.....with Mexico playing for third.

How can any US soccer fan root for our fiercest rival?

Watching soccer is like watching paint dry. Now if they cut the size of the playing field in half it might get interesting.

I wholeheartedly agree (if I knew who our fiercest rival was -- any hints? Maybe France?)

Watching soccer is like watching paint dry.
I used to think that, but I don't know, that seems a little unfair to entertainment value of watching paint dry

Mexico. My daughter, who had lived abroad and is moving to London is visiting. She knows the players and the plays. Its fun to watch when I can hit rewind and asked what happened. Who wouldn't root for Mexico when a goal registered as an earthquake in Mexico.

I think at this point in time Mexico is probably our fiercest rival. New Mexico against Mexico.
