Will there ever be a body retrieval or is it too risky/impossible?

To me body retreivals that pose even moderate danger should not be undertaken. I have seen to many occasions where lives were put at great peril to bring back climbers remains. What more fitting resting place could there be than the alpine arena that drew them in even with their clear knowledge of the risks involved.

The only problem with staying buried in the alpine is that 5,000 years later Reinhold Messner comes along and rips your dick off in the process of flipping you over, like Messner did to Otzi.

WIKI has a good write up about finding Mallory's body on Everest; the most fascinating detail is that he apparently died from a puncture wound on his forehead. The theory is that his ice ax bounced off a rock as he was using it, and hit him in the head.

In this case, the route is so remote, such a discovery is unlikely. But if there is sufficient snow melt going into August/Sept. it is possible their bodies could be found some day.

It seems that the risk involved in these climbs is huge, especially on the descent. Hiring a chopper to pick you up on top would lessen the risk to some degree.

Full agreement.

How would you feel (assuming you could feel anything when you were dead) if somebody lost his life trying to retrieve your dead body from a crevasse or bergschrund omewhere?

Here’s a few photos of where my friend likely ended up. These are from a solo run of the fourth gully a few years ago. Yeah not the safest place.
