Well, its time again! Stage 1 is a grand prix stage in Long Beach today. The heavy favorite seems to be leaning on The Manx Missle, Mark Cavendish
Of course, I'm a Sagan fan and hope he starts things by leading in sprint points. Headed off tomorrow to watch Stage 2 out of Venutura. Hoping to get a spot on one of the turnouts along Gibralter Rd, as the pros battle it out to the top and the finish line itself. Predictions?

i was up there watching last year! That kid(can't remember his name) from Roseville almost won that pitch! Hope he does this year!
You know, there is fun bouldering on Painted Cave Rd! And if you countinue up to Cielo Rd, take a right and you can drive to the finish line. That's the back line they keep open for the service cars😉

You are thinking of Neilson Powless. He's back this year with his new European team, Lotto Jumbo.
This is going to be an interesting year for the race. It looks like there are way more big name sprinters(Kittel, Cavendish, Saga, Gaviria, Kristoff) then there are big name GC contenders(Van Garderen, Adam Yates). That doesn't mean each day's racing won't be exciting; it's just that you might not recognize the guys at the top of the leader board.
Here's a link to the team rosters:

BTW, I am rooting for Megan Guarnier in the women's race. She won in 2016 and just won the Tour of Yorkshire. This could be her last year of racing.

Still makes me laugh that the title sponsor is a pharmaceutical company. The stage I am really interested in is Folsom to Tahoe. I wish they would go down the Peninsula again.

Yah, SKY had their day planned well! Bernal crushed that grade like it was a time trial!! I was there for Stage 2 (Ventura to Gibraltar Summit) and caught the big boys climbing the remaining 8 miles on Gibraltar Rd. I was really hoping Tejay Van Garderen would take the stage, especially with Bookwalter pulling him up to the final 2km. I saw that he tried to attack but Bernal was in pure beast mode. Shots from yesterday....

Mark Cavendish (center) safely tucked into the middle of the fragmented peloton

Actually it was 2 stages. ;)
I see Stage 3 being a Sagan stage. This is his kind of ride.....long and lots of punchy rollers, leading into Laguna Sega. Scene of his last stage win there.

That's what happens when you start a family. I think his wife is due with their first kiddo.
Crazy how Toms Skujins took that stage yesterday. Amazing how he stayed away for that remaining 10km. I thought for sure the peloton was going to catch them. Then again, the GC boys were too busy dickin' around by making Sagan work out front that remaining 5km. If Sagan wants to take that Green jersey by Saturday, he better start working with his mates during Stage 5. I was thinking he'd be all over yesterday's stage, seeing how he took it easy on Gibraltar Road (90th overall).
Speaking of Toms, I remember that horrible wipeout he took last year and was almost taken out by a string of racers while he was stumbling around dazed. Race Radio should have been all over that! I don't care what anyone has to say about that. Common sense prevails....if you see something dangerous unfolding, do something about it! Even if you are a mechanic or spectator at the race. Period!

I was fortunate enough to obtain a VIP pass for the Trek Segafredo team's TT in Morgan Hill yesterday. The highlight was being in the team car following Nikoli Conci around the course. Also got to meet and hang out with the team members as they got ready for their rides. That was super fun.

Watching the Tour Tracker, Dingus. Hoping to spot you! Looks like Katusha is leading the peloton in hopes to launch Kittle for the sprint finish. Go Sagan.....take that Sprint jersey!! Even if Kittle took the finish for 15 points (a hypothetical 22 point overall), I guarantee that Sagan will be in the top 3. Those points aren't enough to pass Sagan today. And then we head off to the hills tomorrow.....Kittle is not a strong climber, whereas Sagan, still more known as a sprinter, has the overall constitution to deal with the hills.
Would REALLY like see Tejay take this tour!!
