I am no noob. did pleanty of drugs in the 70s and dabbled a time or two since. I hurt my hip pretty bad a month ago and the kids at work gave me a bud to help with the pain. Figured a few puffs have no impact on my alcohol sobriety so I gave it a go. The stink bud actually works pretty good for pain. I will give it that but it kills your awareness of lots of other sensations. Normally when I do a good solo I get an incredible adrenalin rush that lasts for the rest of the day and sometimes carrys over into the next day or even week. Last weekend being 420 and all I took a few puffs after soloing Parasol gully on the way home I almost forgot that I had been climbing. Instead of reveling in the climb and rideing the natural high that comes from climbing I was simply stoned. lots of things were interesting and enhanced by the weed but none of them were as intense and worthy as soloing a 300ft frozen waterfall yet I hardly even thought about the climb. Too busy being stoned.....

Figured that. They will call me a noob, suggest that I did not smoke it right or I smoked the wrong strain or perhaps even get me banned but fact is they are too stoned to know what it is like to do a great (relative to the individual) athletic and spiritual endeavor without either being stoned or being in withdrawal and wishing they were stoned. Either one of these conditions blocks the natural high. The only way you can experience the natural high is to be completely comfortable with being clean and sober when you embark on the journey. If your energy is diluted by wishing you had a little bit of this or a little bit of that to make the day perfect you will miss out on how perfect the day actually is.

Does it occur to you that maybe some folks use dope to diminish unwanted non-physical sensations, rather than to have some mind-expanding transcendent aura-enhancing door opened in their tarry little brains?

And maybe some people like Jeff Sessions might have a double-rainbow moment that could be a good thing for us all, eh?

Not too sure about that binary of high vs. withdrawn as far as pot goes Tradman.

people use drugs for all kinds of reasons. Many of those reasons are perfectly legit but that does not change the fact that the drugs alter their reality...

Climbing is 90% mental. If your day is not perfect because you ran out of weed you are wasteing precious mental vibes wishing you had weed instead of being stoked about your climb...

Don't get me wrong. I am totally all for full legalization but I am also aware that imbideing is a separate reality that INMOP is not as intense as the sober version.

So smoking weed tempers your urge to perform self centered frivolous and dangerous pursuits in a desire to feel a temporary high from adrenaline? Sounds balanced

I am a bit confused, did the kids who gave you that bud say it was for climbing, let alone driving?

I mean ,how is your hip?

If a doctor offered you OxyContin,(as my doc did for a bulging disc) would you go climb on it ?

All I can say is weed works more than good for chronic pain.

I have RA,there are days.........

I smoked a bowl before, during and after soloing Royal Arches. Had a great time. Did not dimish my "soloist/adrenaline" high. I think back on that time and still feel great.

^^^ Sometimes I look to put on a condom and do it to my girlfriend from behind so I can pretty she's some tramp I met at the bar.

Edit to add: In all seriousness, I don't really smoke much these days. Maybe once a day and usually late in the evening. I don't know if it helps my memory though. I still can't* find my pitchfork. That's some nice blue ice, BTW.

Hey tradman cheers to finding your route. I don't smoke much really (4 months ago?). But I have climbing quite often and it makes me more open minded and finding that center of balance in the hips and keeps my mind off the annoying distractions you encounter on your journey (Off Belay!!! reply: What!!!!???) from somewhere else. I don't climb for adrenaline or intensity but for grace and efficient movement. I'm fully aware and remember every sequence, gear placement and smell. The cool eddies of air at a shaded ledge tucked in a corner, or the pounding heat when you move into the sun and the air layer you are in is stable and no breeze.

I don't consider myself a "stoner" but I have been stoned climbing and it doesn't detract from my experience one bit. But again climbing the Naked Edge or the Diamond is not an intensity thing for me its just fun...until its not.

Cheers Man!!!

has nothing to do with doing it my way. it is simply a statement that if you think weed makes your climbing experience better that is simply an illusion and you are missing out on reality. The kids gave me the weed because it was 420 and they wanted to expand my mind. they also gave me some for my Birthday last year. I used it for pain and mind expansion. What I already knew and had to re learn is that weed does not expand your mind as much as it simply spaces you out.
