87 and 89 were my favorites.

Used a couple of those in conjunction with my first 1.5 and 2.5 rigid stem friend in those first years of climbing on my own rack.

Now a huge fan of the ultralights.

Awesome display of the most iconic piece of climbing gear out there, in my opinion. I believe a variation on the single-stem pre-thumb-loop Camalot is missing. There was a generation in there that had a "rounded" thumb catch, and then a generation with a more "flat" thumb catch.

Climbingon, compare 94 to 2000 'ends' - that the 'catch' you're talking about? or after only on the actual loops?

Depends on how granular you want to get. There were at least 3 different “thumb rests” as well as 3 different stem cable covers(no stop, metal stop, molded plastic stop), and probably a half dozen other in line changes to trigger bars, retractor wires, swages and side plates.

I think Marty captured the overall timeline quite well, extra points for those rare proto photos.

Camelot was invented by a non-climber engineer named Tony.

I went to his house one day and couldn't believe all the stuff he's designing.

Brilliant guy .....

Barber didnt need even a single one of those silly contraptions.

Henry climbed in shoes he cut the sole off of. He didn’t set any trends there, either.

Looking at the original patent...the springs were initially in the stem.

Hmmm. Anyone seen a prototype of that one?

I bootied a single stem early model a number of years ago off Devil's Castle. Odd looking compared to the final product.

Jonny, I remember gettin' a chuckle out of both of us trying to retrieve a stuck #1 off the Dead Snag...

Didn’t he(Tony) also invent the locking carabiner?
