Anyone have some SMC shallow angle pitons that they are willing to part ways with?
full set, individual, I don't care what size, I just would like to get a few more on my rack.

Much obliged Mike.

no mission in particular, I just have slowly been loosing the ones I already had, 3 of the set of 6 now are in a "museum" of the mountains ranging from fixed on the unlikely to ever be climbed again andesite wall in the cascades to slowly rusting away in that shallow unmarked talus-field-grave at the base of notch peak.

I like these shallow angles because they fill the gap where cam hooks thrive but are not a viable option because the stone is either to brittle or soft.

pretty much buying SMC shallow angles is just saving me from having to acquire standard angles and file them down lengthwise.

I used to see these in discount bins some years ago. Somewhere there must be a box in a basement filled with fresh ones.

Better than LAs in soft rock.

Not likely to reuse mine.

Email doesn't work, inspire me (us) here,...

yes David, in the House out in western Utah.

I wouldn't doubt that there are boxes of unused ones out there somewhere, just not in my basement. my previous set i got for a song in never placed condition.

true statement Ron, besides holding better they are a fraction of the weight of LAs

Love those, used a double set on every wall.

I will see what I have in the bin, not doing too much walling these days.

They sound great when sent to the hilt!

Don't sell those Josh. I think I gave you and Steve my set when I "retired". You never know when you might need 'em. Sure miss climbing with you guys. Best-lars

I never carried them except to fix in the odd thin horizontal placement on free climbs as they were cheaper than Arrows and less prone to thievery.

Lars!

NO worries, I bought another dozen or so, still have all the original ones you gave us.

Best pin to use if you need it to stick. Hard to clean, but man so confidence inspiring.

BITD, I knew someone that would file them down, giving them a bit more taper with more point at the tip. This was pre-beak days; used them similarly...I never used ‘em tho...

Befoer the place shuts down I thought I would try again to see if there are any of these pins floating around that need a new home.

BooDawg, it’s just a very thin angle, like a large beak stack or lost arrow size.

SMC shallow angles are great for thin expando. The tips are a bit blunt, but you can sharpen them on a grinder, as EC mentioned above. Just be sure to keep the metal cool by dipping in water as you grind, so you don’t ruin the heat-treat. With a lot of use, they tend to flatten out over time, so it makes sense to buy more if you use them a lot.

Those are some pretty holy BD Peckers!
