Hey, taxes are always the best answer to a lack of self-control, or minimal intelligence.

Meanwhile, France has seen a dramatic rise in obesity just in 15 years. But in keeping with
their Euro PC hand-wringing culture an anti-fat-shaming campaign is underway led by
Gerard Depardieu. BwaHaHaHa!

Reilly nailed it. Nanny state- yes charging a tax to punish will totally encourage healthy lifestyle. Pffft and I’m sure the tax revenue won’t be misappropriated either to other “projects”

Soda straws are illegal in Seattle, too.

They'll give you free syringes, though.

New York also has a floor on how much you can charge for cigarettes.

Surely an "extreme" sports tax can't be far. We've been getting away with it for too long.

Not Seattle. They are a beacon of fiscal responsibility.

This reminds me of how the State of Oregon was increasing their budget 30% per annum during the housing bubble, then after it burst they grew 30% again using the tobacco suit settlement (soft money) to pay for it. After that ran out everyone was running around like headless chickens saying we needed to pass an emergency 'special' tax increase because the police and schools were literally going to shut down and there would be anarchy and bedlam [insert photos of crying children]. Of course, the 'special' tax bill was shortly passed.
