Climbers,

Yes, it is that time of year again. Clear your calendars, clear your schedulers, tell the folks you are unavailable that weekend. The 29th Annual Tollhouse Face-Off will take place at Tollhouse Rock, above Tollhouse, CA (outside of Fresno/Clovis) on the weekend of October 7-8. There will be almost near-full moon climbing. Some people will be arriving on Friday, October 6 for night climbing. Weather permitting, we will be camping at the top of Tollhouse Rock at Cap Rock. In the event of bad weather, activities will take place at Tollhouse Road and Boroughs Mountain Road. Wear a costume if you want! We hope to see some Bay Area, Sacramento area, and Southern California climbers.

The event will be a benefit for American Safe Climbing Association. T-shirts will be available for purchase. There will be a raffle on Saturday afternoon between 4 to 5 pm. Raffle prizes from Fixe Hardware (best climbing bolt provider), Kevin Daniels Publishing (great guidebooks), Metalmark Gym (whoop!), and others. Empty your wallets and purses for a good cause.

If planning on camping, bring water and remember that only propane stoves with a California Fire Permit are allowed. Get the free fire permit from any Forest Service office. Unless you have a 4WD with medium to high clearance, plan on a 1/3 mile hike uphill from the parking spot to the camping spot. I also encourage people coming for the day to car pool since parking may be limited. Do not block the dirt road since this is a driveway and a fire access road. See Mountain Project or the Tollhouse Rock/Squarenail guidebook for details on how to get to the location.

DaveyTree, I hope to see you there. That is the classic move on "Tollhouse Traverse" (5.5) *. Fliers will be put out at Metalmark today.

I'll be there !

Any idea how many folks will be coming this year? Have you had much of a response from Facebook or at the gym?

I won't be climbing all that much.....probably filming most of the weekend .

Look forward to seeing you there. There is a lot of talk about it at the gym, but talk it up among your friends. I suspect there will be more than last year.

I'll be there with my girlfriend for at least one day. I've heard from a couple of friends around here that they'll show up for a day as well.

Climberdude....I'm having a hard time remembering your ST handle and who you are in "real life". Are you B.C.?

I'm around to help out too. Is there going to be a raffle? A campfire? A group BBQ? Not sure what the order of events might be and what days/nights.

Scott,

I am Mark Fletcher. Yes, there will be a raffle happening Saturday around 4-5 pm. Usually there is a group dinner on Friday night for those who are helping set up. I am sure there will be a group social hour on Saturday night. There will also be museum-quality event T-shirts.

Right on Mark! I thought you might be Barry. I will be up there most of the weekend. Looking forward to helping out. Who would I talk to about donating some stuff for the raffle?

You can talk to me or Barry. I will be going up there on Friday afternoon. I am going to ask Berry if he is there on Saturday if he would help sell raffle tickets during the day.

Tollhouse bump for the upcoming Tollhouse Face-Off this weekend. Fri Sat Sunday. Lots of locals coming out. THE WEATHER IS GONNA BE SPLIITER! Gathering Friday night I believe. Raffle on Saturday afternoon. I'll be filming all weekend with a small crew....shooting a nice little film about Tollhouse, its history, its climbers, its vibe and what it means to all of us who love it. Who's coming?

About a week ago a friend had most of his climbing gear stolen from his car when he went climbing in Tollhouse. Be careful. If i wasnt going to the east side, id be stoked to come out. Great little spot!

You don't need much gear to climb at tollhouse. It is mainly bolted easy slab climbing that he was doing. Someone with ability to do 5.12+ moves occasionally. So although he had all if his gear in the car, he did not bring much of it. Makes sense?

Tollhouse Face-Off starts tomorrow night. Rumor has it that someone will be providing a tasty beverage. Will be awesome weather, possibly fairly warm on Saturday. Look forward to seeing all of you there!
