My daughter just graduated with a degree in petroengineering and I need a hook up in the industry. Thanks for any help or contact you can provide.

I work for Southern California Gas Co. a Sempra Utilities company. Been there 17 years; work with many who have been there well over 30 yrs and I love my career.

The company seems to be really big on engineers on our transmission side (where I work) that seem to get fast-tracked up the management chain. Nearly half the work force is near retirement. Starting salaries in the high 5/low 6-figures.

CEO of Sempra Energy in San Diego: Debbie Reed

Started with the company at 21 yrs old with an engineering degree and worked her way to the top. One of only 20-something female CEO's in the Fortune 500 and member of the National Petroleum Council. Not sure exactly how you might get a resume to her (and she certainly doesn't do the hiring), but if you can get one in her hands she might help a fellow female engineer in a predominately male profession. If SHE forwards a resume to HR it WILL get looked at.

Also, check the "careers" tab at www.Sempra.com

Hope this helps...

Hey John,
Not a lecture but don't forget to let her find her way. Some of my efforts to pave the way for my son backfired. Took me a while to figure out that he wanted to pilot the ship even if it meant some hardships along the way.

And congratulations!

Hah Hah. Largo wouldn't PM me if I was the last soul on Earth.

It is slow right now. Companies have laid off scientists with long resumes. So the domestic industry is slow.

We geologists are kind of insulated from the engineers, except when doing wellsite geology.

I do know Tom Cosgriff quite well, who is an offshore rig supervisor in the North Sea. He had a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering, so he would know more than me. He lives in Norway, and loves it. He is NEVER coming back to live here again.

He is way up there with Statoil, I believe. We talk often, but not about business. If anyone could help with the Norwegian business, it is him.
