We have a trip for 5 (possibly 6, though I think the 6th person is unlikely) people planned for Mt Starr King via Mono Meadows for 4-5 days over the Big Weekend. Yes, we have a wilderness permit. Planning on base camping and hanging out exploring the area.

Any snow on the MSK routes/descent?

I assume we'll have to take the long way around Ililouette Creek (e.g. the bridge).

How about Mt. Clark - a completely silly idea due to creek crossings/snow? Sounds like a PITA to get to Mt. Clark under normal conditions, wonder if the snow would make it harder?

Anyone else gonna be up there :)?

was not up this year, but assume that every creek will be flowing (which is good from the standpoint of water) and that the creek crossings will be the crux of anything you will do...

I also have not been up there this year, but did climbs on MSK three times last September and October. I hope you make it. MSK is fantastic!

A faster way out there is off JMT to Nevada Falls. After Clark Point you can see a fairly obvious(?) exit south from the trail. Easy cross-country navigation. I even hit up Starrking Lake on the same dayhike around starrking. I have gone there via Mono Meadows trail too, so I know what I'm talking about. : )

'A faster way out there' with 5,500 ft of elevation gain...no creek crossing tho

Our permit is for Mono Meadows - I don't think we can change that. Maybe we can exit somewhere else (but the cars! The cars will be up high!)

So we get to walk around to the Panorama Trail, which is one of my favorites in Yosemite due to great views + no crowds.

We have a few days... we might get tempted to schlep somewhere with snow, but it looks like our retreat route and approach route would be the same, so we shouldn't get surprised by uncrossable creeks on the way back (yes, I know they fluctuate daily... but at least we'll know they were crossable at some recent point in time!)

Or not... lots of routes and domelets in the area around MSK, I'm sure we can keep busy.

the area is quite developed climbing wise (not that there aren't new possibilities!)

creeks tend to run light in the early morning and heavy in the afternoons during the melt-out

you'll have a great adventure, the easiest route up Mt Starr King is worth doing and gets you to the top after maybe two pitches (We didn't do that route, but came down it).

find and read the summit register, you'll be surprised who has gone up there!

It was a hot walk in along the Panorama trail. However, once at basecamp, it was fantastic.

We climbed the 5.7 East face route and rapped off of the 5.3? route. Yes, the summit register was very interesting to read. Turns out that gstock was there the day before us!

Pictures will be forthcoming, as they were on our friend's camera. Too busy climbing to take pics. Gotta say that the auto-block is the easiest/fastest way for 3 to climb.

We crossed Illouette Creek on the way out. No problem in the morning, as stated above. Added bonus: we got rinsed of some stink.
