I'm in that hole of desperation to get a wilderness permit to go climb something in mid-August. Having seen what's available, anyone know if the N Buttress of Mt Goode can be reasonably approached from Upper Treasure Lake (rather than the usual Bishop Pass trail)? Hard to tell from topos and satellite view. Bishop Pass permits are out and I'm not c2cing it.

Thanks in advance!

It can be, but obviously adds a bit to your approach.

On the topo, follow the red route above the upper Treasure Lakes and south over the ridge towards Margaret Lake. I used this route to get out of the Treasure Lakes basin once. Just adds time.

That Mt Goode is a cheap imposter! The real one is up in Washington!

hey riemannzetagambit i know you said you aren't c2cing it, but unless the route is right at your limit you might consider it. the approach is long-ish, but a lot of it is on a really good trail, and the descent is like the easiest best descent in the sierra.
fivethirty I'm just a city boy with a 'real' job so I'm a sucker for that crisp backcountry eastern Sierra air on the weekends....why would you want to sleep anywhere else? (honest question for c2cers)

I've actually done the class 2 (3?) ascent of Goode from its backside. Did the ascent of the descent, as it were. Good 'n sandy.

The Forest Service keeps a few permits for walk ins. I've never had trouble getting one. It's tough to plan in advance, but if all else fails there is still hope.

You'll never get a reservation. They probably went months ago. Tom is right though. Show up the day before and there's a good chance you can get one for the following day.

Well I'm a slow poke and it took me about two hours to get to the upper Treasure Lakes from the SL trail head (with a day pack).

Here is a view of the ridge south of the upper lakes and that's likely Goode peaking up beyond it (the upper lakes are just over the pile of rocks in the foreground of the photo).
