Found this little jewel taken at White Wolf on 5/3/17:

Crews have reached reached White Wolf (elevation 8000') snow is six to eight feet deep and very wet. Crews are averaging about a half mile most days. Advance avalanche crews are working at Olmsted Point (one of the major avalanche zones along the road).

Fwiw according to Mapquest White Wolf to the Tioga Park Entrance is 32.1 miles. It also reports traffic is "light" right now. I imagine that's fairly accurate (once you get past the line of snowplows, anyways...)

Half a mile of progress per day. 4th of July or thereabouts.

I've been working up at the Mono VC for a couple weeks now. The "rumor" with the FS staff is it could be around 4th of July... but I believe that is just a random date someone pulled out of their ass that sounds good.

The latest Press release from the Dept of Transportation (dated yesterday) wisely doesn't speculate:

Nobody pulled July 4th out of their butt, JMT. Read all posts above and do the math. 30 miles on the west side left to plow with a half mile progress per day.

The real rumor is the bridge between Warren canyon and Ellery Lake may have suffered structural integrity and may need repair. Rumor is only from one Eastside Westside resident but he knows his sh#t.

They might try and open by July 4th, but keep in mind that the TM campground is not expected to open until August.

On that same day TM Jesse found a neolithic spear point that pre-dated the most recent native indians. I believe he did the right thing with his find and YNP archeologist were delighted.

We could tell the 1892 penny was John Muir s due to it being fairly shiny like a Scotsman had held on to it for a long time, not willing to part with it.

I can do math Timid.. but it's never as simple as x# miles = a certain date.

They were tossing out that date before the snow clearance even began.

There might be more weather. There might be road repairs and delays.

4th would be great. I personally have my fingers crossed that snow removal will all go smoothly . XX XX :)

Walked in and climbed at brake dust crag on Wednesday. Good time to bike in and climb there or transpire wall.
