Well.....getting thin with the gas money - already. Eeeps.
Usually I just say "Wanna buy a chalkbag?" and take the crap that gets posted, and sell a couple of chalkags to people who tell my they love their chalkbag later one.
But this time....I am offering incentive. Because I need to sell a lot of chalkbags, or hair accessories, or jewelry.
So - use Coupon Code W2E20 on any of my Etsy shops, and get 20% off the selling price. A $30 chalkbag becomes $24. In the jewelry and hair accessories shops, the coupon applies to purchases of $10 and more(before shipping is added). Coupon code valid through April 5th, which is my "to be back to NY" date.
Chalkbags at http://www.ClimbAddictDesigns.Etsy.com
Jewelry at http://www.TalismanToo.Etsy.com
Hair Accessories at http://www.TalismanStudios.Etsy.com
Here are some of the current chalkbag styles still available:
Thank you - and let the shenanigans and "don't you ever learn" remarks begin.
On an aside - Southern Utah is incredibly beautiful! Even more so than I ever expected from going up the route through Moab. This time I went through Page, AZ, then west toward Zion, which I visited this morning. Stopped along the way to Old Paria. But since Zion, I am utterly amazed at the variety of rock and color - wow! Not all climbable but - wow! Just went through Red Canyon and am stopped in Tropica. Heading back toward Bryce canyon to camp and will go there tomorrow.

I'd totally buy one, except I have to save all my funds for a multimeter to fix my POS van antenna noise that I live in because of self imposed poverty. Sorry. :(

OK I'm sometimes a bit anti-self-promote on this site but I gotta give a solid plug for Happi's chalk bags..
Husband bought me one several years ago and it's my favorite ever. Nice fabric-it's a perfect size. I'd buy another... but it's so well-made it's holding up great and doesn't need replacing yet.
Support out ST artists!

First - thank you Jody, and the person who sent me a note via PayPal, and MisterE & Justthe Maid. Ski - It makes me really happy to know that one is holding up so well. If I recall right, it was the Golden color with a fabric that had a bit of a chambray hand. I was a little concerned about that one, as it seemed pretty lightweight. It was certainly a gorgeous fabric - one I had bought back when I was doing quilting.
Re: Listening Devices - Kind of/Sort of - The listening devices are within ourselves, and it's my hope that by choosing a chalkbag(or any of the items I make and sell), you have "activated" the device. I hope that your chalkbag will be special for you, and that when you take a dip, you remember to breathe, and listen to your inner voice. Not the one screaming "Yer Gonna Die!!!111" That's just the jokester. The inner voice that reminds you that you are part of the universe.
Are you not ABLE to work? I am not able to work a career-chasing salaried job, that is true. Maybe it is a handicap; maybe it is a blessing. I gave it my all, as a handbag designer, and the companies I worked for profited well off my efforts. There came a point where I did some intensive personal work on awakening my creativity and - what a surprise - the part of me I call "Little Terrie" who is the one who does the creative stuff, refused to go back to that sort of work. It was a fairly interesting experience, watching "her" show up at job interviews.... but too long a story to tell right now.
What I do NOT seem to be able to do is parlay my creative work into a highly paying return on investment. Every year, things get better, but the money flow is very sporadic. As well, I need to invest part of that money back into supplies and inventory. This year I also began working with semiprecious gemstones and yes, I was naughty.... When I left Joshua Tree, I told myself "I'll just stop in at Quartzsite(a gem and mineral oriented town in AZ) and pick up a couple of those dollar cabachons." Unfortunately, I have good taste, and though I did pick up a few dollar pieces, I also picked up five really nice ones.....
When I get back to NY, I will be back to work at my seasonal job, which I actually really enjoy.
Do I think I "could" go back into the six-figure salary type of work? I suppose if I chose to, I could make it happen, although I am almost 55 now, and we know how that goes. But, I don't really do well with pressure. That's something I learned about myself BITD, and since I got sober, I realize that I really DO need to avoid pressure as much as possible, for my own health, and for the health of those I interact with. I also know that if I did, I would put my creative self "on hold." I know this because I have had the experience in the past. When I have "a job"(what those who consider a job working for others), I give my all to that job, and it is exhausting. So - it becomes a choice between tossing "Little Terrie" in a sort of dungeon, and continuing on with the task at hand, which is making things that bring happiness to others.
I don't expect everyone to understand what I mean.
I sell on Etsy too - POst your shop link! Or if you don't want to expose yourself to what can be some icky people here, send me a note via Etsy. I always like to see what others are doing.
Anyway..... on with the day.

Stopped at the Escalante Visitor Center to internet up and cool Lucas down. It is really too hot here to be out hiking too much, unfortunately, with a little doggy. He's been a trooper, but just before I got here I stopped and chatted with a local guy who said "the best is this coming par," when I told him how awed I have been with Utah.
Let me tell you - if you have not been - it's almost unimaginable, the level of spectacular geology. Wait - it IS unimaginable. After leaving Grand Canyon, I kind of got depressed, thinking I had pretty much ended my winter and now just had the long drive back east. I was seriously only planning a "drive through" southern Utah with a few stops. I. had. no. idea. The Page area was incredible and I ONLY stopped to look at the damned dam and Horseshoe Bend before moving on.
But - it is this stretch of HWY 12 that is just like I have been dreaming one of those dreams where colors are more vivid and landscapes are stranger than in awake life.
Every bend in the road has a new surprise - some enormous rock formation - and not a ONE is the same as the one you just saw! They aren't even the same COLOR when it's similar rock, on one side of the road to the other! True, a lot of it is too soft to climb or I suppose a very steep and delicate pick-your-way to get to climbable spots. But it is all eye candy and just magnificent.
Once I get to a spot where I can leave Lucas in the car and work up pictures, I will post some samples. There is just no possible way to have gotten pictures of every sort.
The visitor centers all have samples of dinosaur heads found in the area - and well....wow.

Thanks to those who have provided support in both posts and wishes, and chalkbag purchases.
I ended up asking a family member for a loan, as I had said I would visit on the way east, and one sister is on Spring Break this week, and so am on a deadline to get there. At any rate, I should be all right, gas wise. Of course, I am still happy to have people buying chalkbags!

Happie, "You so totally rock, squirt, gimme some fin, some noggin'." Seriously girl, your personal example is an inspiration to all willing to be inspired. That first colorful mud photo is the Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation, a formation I have collected colored mud samples from many times for my wife to use as a primitive pigment in her art. Artists make a statement about the creative human potential that simply outlasts mortal life spans. As such, you are doing sacred work there, girl. Being married to an artist is a real education in creative process and one I would not trade for anything (plus I love my wife and wouldn't trade her for anything anyway). So, profoundest respects for what you do, Happy, and many happy (sorry, could not resist) returns.
I just bought one of your chalk bags to (A) support you, (B) support the arts, (C) because its beautiful, and (D) just because I wanted to. So there!
Jody is an artist in his own right so it totally does not surprise me that he supports you - he gets it.

Happie, the chalk bag with the red trim you posted, it looks like it is made from African Kuba cloth, is that so?

Thank you, Nick. How cool that you collect that rock for use as pigment. Cool!!!!
...African Kuba cloth...
It is not, but the textile is still magnificent. Perhaps the designer of it was inspired by Kuba cloth.
The fabrics I use are, for the most part, textiles intended for home decor and upholstery. I have one source that has high end clientele, and at season's end the pile the selling swatches on tables and sell them off. I usually can get three chalkbags made from one swatch(and separate material for trim, obviously). Occasionally I can get four out of a swatch and once in a while I actually buy a yard, which I can get...lots....from. But usually - the patterns are limited to three pieces.
Sometimes the material seller runs the same material for consecutive seasons and then I can get another swatch. I hope that one will be in that category, as somebody did just purchase the last one, and I just love the colors.

Glad to hear that Jody!
SPECIAL NOTE: I have an order that cannot go out until I hear back from the purchaser. The post office says the address is not one which receives mail.... I have sent three notes to buyer asking for clarification or confirmation address is right, but so far no response.
Person in CO - please check your emails, including Spam Folder if your email is well locked down! Since it is the last of it's pattern, I do not want to ship until I know I have the right address.
