New REI catalog in the mailbox when I got home today. Very striking climbing shot on the cover, but I have no idea where it is.

Looks like east of the cascades/coast, and west of the Mississippi, but for all I know it could be in Tajikistan.

Anybody?

Thanks Clint.

Do you know what kind of rock it is? Looks like something from Mars (or Tajikistan).

No rock of that quality in Tadzhikistan ( I use the old transliteration). But, boy howdy,
you can sure score cheap Kalashnikovs!

Huh, if I'd received that one I might have given it more than a 20 second skim. Instead I got some baloney trailrunning cover and it's already tossed in the recycle bin.

But I guess that's what I get when the only thing I've purchased at REI in the last year is a pair of clearance trailrunners...

Edges of Time is a good route on granite at Lily Lake which is just above the town of Estes Park at 9000' off of Colorado Highway 7 and just next door to Long's Peak and the Diamond!

The route itself has one hard move (5.9+) down low that is well-protected by a bolt. In years past the bolt was a bit controversial so it disappeared and reappeared a few times. Seems like it has stayed put for a while now.

The upper section of the route is probably only 5.6 or 5.7 but it used to be protected by a few fixed pins which sometimes fell out. Another controversy about replacing the pins with bolts has occurred over the years. You can get so-so pro near the pins.

Striking arete, looks a lot harder than 5.9. Sometimes you get that though, get up close and there's a lot of small handholds not visible from even just a bit away.

Thanks for sharing that Ghost!

reminds me of I.M. Pei's East Building of the National Gallery of Art in D.C.
