Hi,
does anyone have any information about a solo ascent of the Eiger Direct (or a variation of it) by Charlie Fowler in c. 1991? There appeared a short "hot flashes" article in Climbing 130 (Feb/Mar 1992), but that's all I could find so far. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Charlie! I was just talking about him this morning. Aside from a great climb we did together, he gave me the hot tip that ended up as China's Wings. Very grateful for that. Wish he were still with us.

Well yikes you called my bluff. I haven't climbed in a year now and YES I am skeered!
Maybe spring break?

OP-sorry for the thread drift. Anything Charlie Fowler would be awesome.

I know you both, you would have fun together. Come on down to Patagonia where you can get skeeered together.
Charlie was the ultimate lifer. You kind of new his life would end in the mountains.....it just happened too soon.
