John Glenn gets his own thread, sorry couch.

A great pilot, a brave soul, and an inspiration to all Americans, and most human beings, period.

Rest In Peace Soldier.

No disrespect to you survival for initiating this post. Heartfelt indeed. However, John Glenn was a Marine aviator, not a soldier in the Army. Soooooo.......

Rest In Peace Marine!

Soldier was just a catch all term mooch. Soldier of life, soldier of politics, soldier of the country. No disrespect meant obviously, and yes I knew he was a Marine.

Sorry for the typo.

He is worthy of his own thread. A hell of a good stick and a really nice
man by all accounts. Much respect.

Semper Fi!

FYI, a Marine aviator died off of Japan today when he punched out of his F-18C.

Reilly, sorry to hear about the Marine out of Japan. Seems we've had a number of military pilots lost the last couple years. Drag. I'm glad it didn't happen to any of my students that I know of.

I wonder how much it happens to Russian pilots, and we never know about it..

Reports from Syria say they have recently lost two SU-33s to accidents just
flying off their POS carrier, aka The Smoking Hulk.

BTW, you do know yer book report is due soon? I'll give you a few more weeks. ;-)

He had the right stuff. How many people nowadays would gladly strap themselves into a highly experimental craft atop a million pounds of explosives.

While in the Smithsonian with my kids a few years back, we peered into his minuscule space capsule, and I couldn't help wondering...."How in the hell did they get him AND his balls into such a small space???"

LOL! We thought the same thing. Like going into orbit in a Corvair.

The man rode a ball of fire into outer space, that's kinda cool.

Very sorry to hear this, although he had a long and well-lived life. They don't make them like him any more.

Plus it was rather cool that one of the first astronauts had the middle name Herschel.

February 20, 1962 was an important day for me too.

In 1962 he told us how black space was and how bright the stars were, I never forgot that voice and those words......I heard them again today, I was 11 years old again for a split second and I was blown away, thanks indeed.
