Tonasket? You can tell us.

I would rather you guessed. You are about 40 miles away. This should be easy.

Yeah but the State of Washington has some strict regulations. That could change. All the mines are closed and tourism is bleak unless you like to hunt and fish or ride a bike. There is climbing nearby if you like granite.

I won't give Wayne's secret away, but here's a clue: Once he makes the move, he's going to become a Republican.

(And btw, Wayne, we're not going to be far behind you.)

The other direction, Reilly. And I can't grow much of anything up there anymore. Not a lot of hippies there, Tonasket has more. Mostly ranchers and hay farmers. Ferry County has a total population of around 7,000. Second poorest county in the state. Infrastructure is light. Not one traffic signal in the whole county.

Reilly, I already have one of those cheapo Mossberg pumps and an old single-shot 16-gauge Remington. The wild turkeys cruise my yard all the time.

Yes, Republic.

I didn't cheat and Google it.

I live just over the river in Stevens County.

Deathly envious I am! Actually tried to talk la femme into buying a sweet 80 acres outside
Republic earlier this year! Too remote for her. :-(

Would that be "Cawl-vill" ?

I don't really need the scatter-gun. I know this neat trick with a paper cup and some grain and stuff. Hit'em with an axe.

Nice! Country living is the only way for me. Truckee was a bit of a stretch, not country by a country mile. My hometown in NH fits the bill for me, I'm five miles from 'town' and the town is only 3k people.

Also, it's ok to live in the sticks and not be obsessed with guns. I only own two, and they're rarely used. I kind of wish everyone here (NH, not ST) would STFU about guns. People are obsessed.

Nice backyard!

I came across this little gem recently:

Code of the West

1) Live each day with courage.
2) Take pride in your work.
3) Always finish what you start.
4) Do what has to be done.
5) Be tough, but fair.
6) When you make a promise, keep it.
7) Ride for the brand.
8) Talk less and say more.
9) Remember that some things
aren't for sale.
10) Know where to draw the line.

Nothing in there about shootin' turkeys. It must be good.

Wayno! Glad to hear you folks are doing good out in the wilds of NE Washington. A climbing buddy friend of mine moved to the Republic area in the early 1980's. Say hello to Mike Nelson for me, when & if you see him.

Otherwise Hi & best wishes from Heidi & me to you & Masha.

Thanks Fritz. I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled for Mike. What does he do?

We will probably have some kind of house warming party next year. It's a long way from anywhere but we have a lot of room for guests.

So the nearest town of any size is Canada. Grand Forks that is. A neat little town of several thousand where the Kettle and Granby Rivers meet.

We drove up to Grand Forks on Election Day and had a little trouble getting across.
