Perhaps my most scary experience climbing was in 1978, while climbing a hard A4, expanding flake, on Dogface, in the Blue Mtns. of Austrlia, with John Ewbank.

I've always had a strong dislike of big spiders, and when a really big Huntsman spider emerged from this overhanging A4 crack, I was nailing, I almost jumped off. Take a look at this video, and I think you will understand
why I was terrified!

earlier this month i saw three different tarantulas in a week, compared to none over the several years prior.
the day after one sighting i saw a tarantula hawk hiking the same trail so i watched for a while and decided
if it was tracking the spider, eventually it lost the trail

No way would I climb in Australia. Correction, no way would I insert my fingers in any
orifice not immediately and completely visible. If anything moves in Oz it is quite probably lethal.

Yikes I dislike arachnids ,
though, the colloquial term was my nick name for years in High school.
Some thing to do with climbing I'll bet.

"The news had on a rare Black Widow, red spot and all in Conneticut in the fall!,"

My wife's grandparents had an 18th century farm house in Conn.

When I went down into the very damp basement, their were many black widow spiders in the ceiling. They were definitely black widows, with the distinctive hourglass markings on the abdomen, and round black body. My wife's Grandfather said they never bothered anybody.

Late 80's I got offered a job in Australia. Things were going pretty well here so I turned it down. I've wondered ever since if I made the right decision. Now I know.

everyday occurrence here - this guy was in my bathroom for the last 2 days - eventually took him outside cos he was making me a little uncomfortable by looking over my shoulder as I brush my teeth.
