Advice please! With the temp dropping and chances of showers in the southern Sierra, where would have better fishing this weekend: MF of the Kings between Tehipite Valley and Yucca Point, or on the Kern fishing up from Forks of the Kern?

Comfort and difficulty of travel are not a concern, simply looking for the best 3 days of fishing possible for my brother and I. Thanks!

Crab.... I'm going to the east side. Talk of spawning trout in Mcgee creek. West Walker River had some large Rainbows that Gome was able to tickle... last time we were there. And the Owens is picking up.

For you? The Kings looks pretty good from the photos of you and V.. can it get better?

The Upper Kern? Never been there.....

wherever you go .... Good Luck

Upper O has been decent the last couple days. Clear,so you're super visible. Couple casts in a bend then keep moving. Hopper/dropper. :-D

Boating leads to fishing
Fishing leads to anger
Anger leads to the dark side.

Let go your fishing self, embrace the rest of us as we wait out the rain!

The Middle Fork of the Kings (from Yucca Point i assume) will always be good. Hardly anyone goes there so the fish are not at all shy, and there are big fish in there. I haven't fished the upper Kern lately but I have never had great luck there. Maybe it is better now that it is c&r. I think the upper Merced around Foresta might be getting good about now too. If I went to the east side I would fish the middle Owens by Bishop before I went to the upper unless the fish are coming up out of Crowley.

This^^^^. My best days on the Middle Owens were always right as the weather was turning and duck season was around the corner. Made even better if you have a boat to avoid the combat fishing among the willows.

Thanks guys. I suggested the east side to my brother but unless our legs get tired on the approach and we need our waterproof backpacks to travel he's not interested. Just not sure how this weather will effect places.

I've lost some HUGE fish on the upper SJR but with the storm tracking north we're looking south.

I was just at Lake Sabrina above Bishop, with the low water guys are hauling out big stringers. Also Rock Lake looks very good. Abundant fish for everyone to catch.

Report back if you go.

You should post this to the trout lovers thread. Civil and lots of great anglers there.

Will do, not sure why I haven't been on there much before, I love talking about fishing!

Maybe I thought it was for people who catch large trout while I'm mostly on small rivers catching cute little guys.

Don't kid yourself... you have some nice ones in those Kings river photos.

This is a cute little guy.

The San Joaquin behind Mammoth is down to about 6 cfs and while there are reasonable fish there it is really only good for one person to fish it hole to hole.

If I was travelling to flyfish somewhere right now it would probably be the McCloud River where I could fish big October caddis patterns for giant brown trout.

Save the dorado!!!!

Aren't rooster fish those ones that you have to run up the beach and you get like one for every 100 hours of fishing or something?

I'll fish the east side someday, I just can't get enough of rivers that aren't stocked and look like this

Hopefully this low pressure will turn the fish on and it won't be too cold!

Crab if we hit that Middle Fork off Yucca point this weekend is it just standard caddis and mosquitos and black gnats? Any special pattern or size?
