Anyone been using these new Petzl Spirit biners?

I picked up a dozen from the mtn shop and when I got'em back to the tent and started fondling them, I discovered a clicking noise when opening and closing the gate. Out of the 12, 5 made this noise and the gate operation wasn't as smooth as the other 7. Needless to say I couldn't sleep. First thing in the morning I jetted back to mtn shop and reported my findings to the manager. We went through the other 20 or so he had, and almost half of those were "clickers".
He replaced my clickers with smooth operators.

We are all aware of the precision quality of the "old school" Spirits which have been manufactured by Rock Exotica for years. That's why the've been my favorite biners for over 25 years and why I have over 60 on my rack. So when I needed some more draws I thought it ovious to buy more of the "best".

Now I'm questioning the integrity of these biners. Does anyone know if the new spirit's are still made by Rock Exotica?

Does anyone know where I might be able to pick up some old school Spirit's?

I've heard you get a rack of them as a graduation gift when you pass the test that shows you know the difference between possessive and plural.

Aside from the click why would the quality be compromised?

Well I'm no scientist, or English major for that matter.. But, what kind of quality is it when 40% of them click and the others don't?? If you've handled the biner you shoulda been able to feel the difference between the "clickers" and the non-clickers. The tension of the gate changes in its range of motion right near the two click's.

Seems to me a huge decline in Rock Exoticas "quality control"! Either that or their outsourcing the Spirits to China??
