What's the latest cell coverage situation in TM?

I switched to Verizon this year, so hoping to have some coverage to connect with partners, etc.

See you there!

I'm with CC, and I got text coverage in camp and calling out by grill. I called everyone from the top of Cathedral Peak!!

Verizon had pretty good coverage in the Whitney Portal until recently; we could even get cell service from the summit of Whitney. (AT&T was mostly worthless.) This year, Verizon moved the Lone Pine antennas and changed out some electronics in Feb-Mar and basically screwed up connectivity into the Portal. It now sucks.

Calls have been made, Verizon honchos and senior engineers have done recent visits and site surveys, and they are now applying for 911 permits to justify extending their coverage into the canyon and to reconfigure devices.

I, too, am curious how coverage is in Tuolumne…

There last weekend and got coverage at the Lodge (as well as intermittent internet access), but not in the campground. Honestly don't remember whether or not I did at the grill. There didn't seem to be much consistency.

P.S. I have AT & T.

Across the street from the grill is usually pretty solid.

There is a pullout on the Tioga Road just across from the bottom of the May Lake road where you can pick up a signal from the valley.

Last Thursday I made a voice call at the beginning of the Tower Traverse and at the top of Whitney with AT&T. Also at the Portal.

Does anyone know where the cell antenna is at Tuolumne Meadows?

The cell tower is right next to the Tuolumne SAR cache.

That explains the coverage at the lodge.

Park here for 5 bars on ATT or Verizon

You can make a call, but no data, and text did not work well for me.

The only data connection I've found up there (with AT&T) is at Olmsted Point.

I always look forward to telling others I will be unreachable as I will be in TM.
After being plugged in and connected for so many years I think we tend to forget the joys of not being available 24/7.

edit:
I know Ed here is just looking for some useful beta so he can stay connected but, the fact that he is in arguably one of the most beautiful places on earth and still feels this need reminds me of just how distracted we have become with modern technology.

Drive east over Tioga Pass and go down US 120 till you get a point-to-point line-of-sight connection with the Verizon transponder in Lee Vining. Somewhere down by the Green Bridge (sometimes). But definitely at the Pool Power Station Road intersection. Morain CG has Verizon too. Aspen CG sometimes has it. Otherwise, walk up Dana Plateau where you can see Lee Vining. Kinda laborious though. Top of Tioga Peak works too.
