Just saw this in an e-mail from the Cal. Dept of Fish/Game. Pretty cool little resource map;

https://map.dfg.ca.gov/fishing/

Uses the switches on the left of the screen to enable/disable features on the map.

I suppose it could be useful for areas you may be scouting or are planning to visit. And it has fish-planting schedules if that's your thing.

Nice thing to have book-marked. Enjoy.

Some of the best trout fishing I have had was on the east slope of the Sierra from the Bishop area north to Carson River. So many great places to explore off the beaten track. I wish I had a resource like that when I was doing it twenty five years ago. All I had were maps and rumors. There are some areas that I found that aren't covered on the map, which is a good thing.

I hear y'all about discovery and adventure. I concur.

Most of my fishing, however, is done in established waters. And the coastal info is invaluable, with all the changing regs and status of waters.

You don't have to use it, just thought it may be useful to some.

Our fish and wildlife folks mapped the shellfish densities of the common clams of local bay and put it in a map. I'm talking species AND density per sq meter~! Makes digging them a bit too easy. So 2 weekends ago we have a big negative tide and I grab the dog, the bucket with a shovel and go walkabout where I'd never been and no one else goes.

Now, I'll preface it by saying that the bay has @ 10 species of clams in extreme abundance (ie, dig a single hole and limit at some spots). And the bay has the rare geoduck (pronounced Gooie duck) clams as well. They are the largest burrowing clams in the world, and sell for big money to Asians because they taste so good. They are rare in my state, not so much in Washington. But the clam survey didn't mark any geoduck clam locations although it's known they are in the bay. So I go walkabout just to see some new territory and I trip over the motherload of geoducks in an area devoid of any clams per the survey. Big ass siphons and lots of them too.

No I didn't dig any up, but watched the ones still underwater for a while as they filtered their lunches. Went and raked 12 steamers (Littlenecks) at another location that my wife made pasta with. Perfectly cooked. I'll need to consider on this for a while, as the site is easily visible where the highest clam densities are noted on the map (butter clams, gaper clams and cockles), an area which often has 200-300+ clam diggers digging away. No way to stealth a couple out during daylight, and I don't want to start a gold rush stampeed that will see them all dug up and gone in short order. Probably need to wait till a low tide during an winter early night time. They live up to 168 years old, and I know where they are and will be if other folks leave them alone.

WTF? That map is worthless! It didn't show one place where I can fish with explosives. :-(
