Granite Mountain Wilderness off the I-40 on Kelbaker Road(back/fast way from Vegas to JT)whats the deal? Cant really find any info on it... bad granite? to small with JT only another hour? wilderness? pita? everytime I drive that way I wonder about it... enlighten me...please!

I believe it is closed..... signs posted all the way around.
Some sort of endangered zone...special study area and the people doing the studying.... well they all graduated and took up studying Frogs.

Sounds like a great destination to experience the heat right now.
Lol.
It's a nice place mid winter but right now, you might die from the heat.
It's a wilderness reserve and the University of California studies the area. The best stuff is fenced off and closed.

I've camped there a few times but never had climbing gear. The rock seemed incredibly coarse. Bring lots of tape if you plan to jam anything. Scary coarse.
