Memorial Day weekend 5-31-16
Road to Big Sleep / Brown's Meadow was clear and passable from both ways in.

Shuteye Lookout was accessible to the camping are below the technical section for high clearance vehicles. I was able to drive to the top of the lookout winching only once at the top to pass a snowfield.

Camped at big sleep and left a bunch of firewood ready for the next party along with log seats and a chainsawed bench.

Light rain throughout the weekend didn't foul the roads.

Any updates? I'll be taking a stock 4x4 up there this coming weekend. Wondering if I'll make it to the ridge...

I'll update on conditions when I'm back.

Dude, I haven't fixed the bent chassis support bar and muffler issue from my last weekend adventure... I don't think my Prius can pull off that approach.

We were up at High Eagle a couple of days ago--all clear. 2wd road requires high clearance, however, so don't expect to get your Prius to the top. Was kind of hot and buggy up there after Memorial Day.

Nut,

I've been interested in going and you know I've got a big F-150 4 x 4.

Give me a call if you have some time free.

@Fivethirty:

Hmmm...Dunno. We were there Monday (Memorial) through Thurs. morning camped at the highest 2wd spot for High Eagle--white a-frame trailer and white Tundra with shell. The only rigs we saw up there were 4wds except the guy who motored up in a classic Mercedes diesel! I'm 6'4", skinny, dark hair, pony tail; wife's 5'3" with crazy curly hair; dog is border collie/blue healer mix. Sound familiar?

Going to high eagle baby blues wall tomorrow and finish up what I started last November, going by myself, that area was a zoo last weekend 😞, was at chilkoot and lost eagle last weekend and did see climbers at both spots 😞 but the week days will be its old sleepy self😴 the last two years even with grahmy's book shuteye was mellow, but this year more people there then in the past, not sure how I feel about that yet, the last 25 years kind of use to having shuteye to myself!!!, back in the day before it was friend rock camp site, " still not psyched on that griffey on the rock" 😞 I got my carevan up there no worries, but now the road is pretty beat up, just going to get worst with the traffic going up there those day, glad I got a suby and a Tacoma 4x4!!! happy climbing Mike A.

When the road becomes impassable, and people have to walk, then the climbing will be quiet again

Rad! Glad your crew had a good time.

I'll be up there for the Taco-fest in 2 weekends.

Beautiful sunsets last weekend. It was a little buggy, but otherwise perfect conditions. Didn't see any snow. Had 50 5.7s wall all to ourselves for a day. :)

Hey Guys, Does anyone know the status of Chilkoot lake these days? Have they drained it yet this year? I was up there around July 4th and it was still very full.

Any info is appreciated!

I don't know about the lake, but the wasps are out like swarms of wild fire demons right now. One got me through my sock yesterday, and my ankle's about doubled in size. Bring an epi pen if you're systemically allergic and some Benadryl if you get bad local reactions to stings; these little monsters are aggressive and EVERYWHERE

But it's gorgeous right now, and we had the whole place to ourselves :)

Sox,
It was pretty low a couple weeks ago. Are you looking to drive thru it? I haven't driven it, but it looked drive-able.

Hi all, the bees seem to be bad the higher up you are, climbed last week at chiquito dome, and gray eagle beers were not bad at all, but holly cow at Fresno dome this week super bad stung at least 7 times in two days, so like they say if needed bring banidryl and epi pin!!! Yes chilkoot is a puddle now, and the bees are mean there 🐝🐝🐝😞 so heads up!, happy climbing Mike A.

I've never had a grey eagle beer, are they dark, anything like a negra modelo?

Another confirmation that the Heinous Winged Demons from Hell are indeed out in force this year. Must be the famed 7-Year Cycle or something.

We were over in Arnold Meadow and up by Granite Creek and over to Cattle Mountain last week and those flying bastids were everywhere! I set up water bottle traps at the cabin and each had over 50 wasps inside of a day.
