myself, heather, and few friends will be on the river this sunday to celebrate my birthday, but a lot have flaked out, and some of my boating buddies have passed away(walt shipley, sean leary), so i am inviting anybody qualified to join us. we will be meeting at red bud picnic area at 10am, scouting and shuttling, and putting in at 11am. river should be high, but it should be nice and sunny. this is a serious run with 3 class IV rapids in the first couple of miles. please, no crash test dummies. it is possible to put in at cedar lodge, portage ned's gulch, and keep the difficulties to ONLY class III. it would be great to meet some new boaters. see ya there, steve schneider

better meet at Suspension instead if that is your take out,

leave cars there otherwise you will need two hours to get on the river with the screwed up bridge and all the back tracking,

1800 cfs below Briceburg, chipped tooth and nightmare is gonna be pushy, better make it a two day trip with indian flat to bricegurg on the first day to shakedown your paddlers,

open invite=swimmers

Rock!...oopsie.

Limited experience but I make up for it in psych and I've got my protective gear... see you there!

Ha ha. open invite is probably more bold than the paddle itself. Nevertheless it's an enviable birthday plan, have a blast.

we will probably take out at briceburg so we can play at gauge hole. im not much of a hole rider, but the wave train just above gauge is among the best on the river for surfing.

i just want a few extra people around in case the birthday boy has a problem...lol

i imagine we might be able to recruit a shuttle bunny...any takers? ss

Was there last weekend and might be there next weekend, but we're staying far away from the Valley this weekend!

River not too high, only 1500 at RedBud this morning... the low end of good. (or, rather, good for me in my little boat)

yeah, it was 6 years ago when i turned fifty that only sean leary showed up to boat the upper river with me. we had a memorable run and were both tested with big water action. i got stuck in the hole at the base of nightmare island and was feeling sorry for myself so long that i drifted out of the hole, i was upside down for awhile, and then rolled over all great and happy. sean got tipped in ned's and also had to deal with that. long live stanley, i miss the freak out of that guy. anyway, sounds like levels are a lot lower and it should be good for surfing waves...so if you are game, see ya there. steve

flowing 1800 right now, a good flow for surfing waves, not too pushy. i imagine it will come up a bit on sunday given the sunny warm temps that are predicted. ss

Red Bud to Briceburg is a real long day, especially with an 11 am put in, you won't have much left by the time you reach Gauge Hole, better put in at Indian Flat, or do Red Bud to Indian and play at Motel Hole, jus sayin,

looks like we will go from red bud to suspension bridge...swilliam says there is a great wave train wsomewhere below ned's that the kayakers can surf on...so we do not need the gauge hole and wave train...probable go play at gauge on tuesday which is my actual bday. steve

y'all missed a big day on the river last weekend. bill russell, bless his heart, showed up in a cataraft setup that greg and heather went on as passengers. another raft, lso manned by a single oarsman went with 3 passengers. i was the only kayaker to show up...thanks guys. it was totally spicy, swilliam got ejected when his rig went vert at the end of chipped tooth, and then got back in after greg went to man the oars. i was tested early in nightmare island. i followed the rafts, going river left, and seeing a huge, near river wide hole that the rafts just skipped over, tried to dodge right, starting getting sucked in sideways into the maw, and then just scratched out of it. good times. anybody want to get on the water next mon/tues? shipoopoi
