I'm a 64 year old active climber, back to periodic training after 4 years of absence from training. Usually climb 5.10 to 5.11+ dependent on location and style of climbing. Yeah I know, after all these years , I'm still a punter!

Base fitness and strength cycles produced expected improvement, now the kicker " Recruitment/ Power phase" Previously I used limit bouldering (110% of effort on short problems) for that phase.

Is it possible for senior climbers to benefit from campus board power training? Is this a grey area ( pun not intended) or is age not a limiting factor of the ability to increase contact strength.

Any one out there, have data that would support avoiding or engaging in campus board training for seniors, or is this unexplored research?

A little perhaps. I used a simplified and non-overhanging campus board (that I built) from about your current age for ten years therafter. I was able to more or less maintain my contact strength for awhile, but didn't push myself.

Be very, very careful. Good luck.

I use a campus board for training and found that it is really improved my climbing...

right now I'm using rather large rungs, and also counter weighting... and usually not more than about 9 sessions a year (3 for each of three training periods) following the RCTM prescription.

The session usually works through three sets of 4 reps...

for a look at the setup

I'm currently 62...

I'm doing lots of finger board training these days because it doesn't hurt me and I'm getting really, really lazy. In fact, just plain no good.
