hey there all, so i come new to supertopo. y'all have quite the online informational resource. so thank you all! i come with a question regarding a hand injury and was hoping to hear from those of you who have had a similar injury. wanted to know recovery time, personal experience with the injury, etc. so i'm dealing with a partial tear of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon to the right index finger. it happened four months ago. felt a tear sensation in the forearm and had marked pain and weakness in the right index finger at the pip joint. a few days later the forearm had some mild bruising. had some pretty good pain, especially when trying to move the finger at the PIP joint. but had severe weakness. i've had three mri and two ultrasound (forearm, hand, wrist) and all confirm partial tear of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon at the musculotendinous junction with a strain of the entire flexor muscle. they all confirmed the tendon is in tact. i'm relieved it is a partial tear, but at the same time i'm starting to get a little concerned and just frustrated by the lack of strength in that digit. i depend a lot on my hands. i no longer have pain with passive or active movement, but i have zero strength at the PIP joint in the index finger. been to two specialized hand surgeons in the midwest (ohio, chicago) who are some of the best in the country and they've both said 'time and that i simply strained the crap out of the tendon and muscle'. i note also that they are both well versed and experienced with climbing injuries and see quite a bit of them. so i guess long story short, here i am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience with a musculotendinous junction partial tear in the forearm to the index finger or any finger for that matter. therapy has included compression, ice/heat, graston, ultrasound and stim. i haven't been to a formal hand therapist, i've just relied upon my own rehab knowledge i guess. but i'm considering seeing a specialized hand therapist if the weakness persists. i've tried strengthening the PIP joint but now it just gives way to the slightest resistance with no pain. anyway, i'd appreciate any feedback! i can't be the only one to have this injury, seems like it could be a common injury. thing that has me concerned and anxious i guess is that it's been four months and there's been no real progress. i've rested it as well from any aggravating activity outside of light passive and active stretching. as a gymrat, casual climber, and chiropractor i depend a lot on my hands! :) it's a long read but thank you anyone for the feedback. have a great day!
