Does anyone know where a lost goat would go in the middle of winter?

^^Old photo of goat that resembles 'William'. It is winter now and the grass is not lush and green in Iowa.

I'm hoping the one that got away from researchers at UI has already found his way to someone's stable as there are a few in the area, but if not then what are it's chances outside in a midwest winter?

There's plenty of food available and it's been warm enough only a skin of ice has formed over creeks and other low areas so water is available.

Thing is, I wonder if this goat even knows what outside is. Would he even know to kick a hole in the ice, or nibble on weeds or grass on the golf coarse. Would he seek safety in the high rough ground of a nearby quarry?

I hope he was found and silently adopted by some local horse-loving folks. There's lots of woodsy areas for this goat to use for cover and in addition to horses there are some folks who own goats and llamas. Would he be attracted to others of his kind?

Not sure what his research life has been like. I understand he's been involved in orthopedic research. He escaped as he was being transferred from the trailer or container he was in, and since he did not turn back I suppose he didn't trust any of his handlers, or was scared by something else at the time.

Edit to add:

Where should one look?

How should one approach a goat or is that a dumb idea?

Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

edit to add even more and to announce
this thread will self destruct in 3-2-1:

I found an article that says the goat was purchased as a mature specimen from a local farm for orthopedics research in September 2015 research.

So, I've answered my question there... he probably knows his way around Iowa in the winter and is most likely looking for home wanting no part of this research.
